Is Allo releasing this week? Hope so!

I'm kinda intrigued and want to give this a try, but no one I know uses Hangouts (Whatsapp and FB Messenger are pretty popular over here), so I imagine even less will want to use Allo.

Mrs Presidente will probably give it a go, but no one else.

I downloaded it from the play store this morning. I used it to send a few text messages.
While it can't set as your default SMS app, you can send SMS messages from it. I think I read that this can only be done in the US and a few other countries right now.
It's pretty neat. I'll play around with it more later.

It has a ton of potential, but so did Hangouts.
I don't like the white status bar. It washes out notifications
I give it 3 stars because of the status bar and not being able to use it as my default SMS app.

Apparently it's OUT - I just installed Google Allo :)

EDIT: It's pretty cool, but there are some growing pains. I can use it for messaging, but it didn't import any messages from Chomp SMS and there is no way to make it the default app. The text suggestions are very clever, and there are more than enough emoticons to make anyone happy. So far, so good... but I have a lot of learning to do.

I'm just curious what Google plans to do with Jibe and the planned RCS texting app???

I saw a poll to the effect that 75% of users who downloaded Allo no longer use it. Including me. I played with it for all of a few hours and had maybe four conversations on it. But it's so limited in scope that I eventually uninstalled it. Fun while it lasted, I guess :)

I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. Seems too many people are panning it as a poor solution. :(

I downloaded, sent a couple of text invites, got 1 response asking if someone had stolen my phone or if it was infected, no one else used it.

Now uninstalled.
