Looking for "second screen" app

Anyone have any experience with apps that let you use an android device as a second screen for your laptop?

I see several in the market, but reviews are all over the place with the, does not seem to be any solid standout. I don't need anything fancy.

I tried iDisplay but it just keeps force closing on my device. All of them cost money so I don't want to keep buying just to find it sucks.

And to clarify, I want to use my tablet as a second monitor not share my PC screen.

Well, its definitely possible because I have seen it done (that's where I got the idea), but it was at a conference so I don't know what app they used, and Spacedesk does exactly what I want except that it only works on the network, I need this for on the go, so it needs to have a USB option.

Those are just a sample of the available apps that can do it, however they all cost money aside from Spacedesk. All the examples I found suggested iDisplay so I bought that, but it doesn't work on my phone, apparently it has issues with latest Android version, and support is non existent so I don't know if they are even updating it...

So I don't want to keep paying for apps that won't work, and was just wondering if anyone else had experience with any of them.
