Whatsapp push notifications not arriving

Hi guys!

Recently I have been having problems receiving messages on whatsapp. Messages only arrive when I physically go to the programme and open it. I haven't changed any settings or anything and I have all the latest updates and everything but the messages just aren't coming through!

I'm getting really frustrated now as my boyfriend lives abroad and it's making communicating very difficult!

I have also gone through all the recommendations in the whatsapp faq, again to no avail. I really am desperate now!

I have an HTC wildfire s, with android 2.3.3.

I have reinstalled whatsapp three times now and it made no difference.

how do you reinstall the android system? and do you lose any data, settings etc by doing it?

thanks for your help!

Go to the phones settings/accounts and sync/ and see if whatsapp is checked.
Also check all the notification settings within whatsapp and see if it is set up correctly.
If you have uninstalled and reinstalled then i'm sure the settings keep resetting themselves.

everything is syncing, connected, background data turned on, everything! and the notification settings in whatsapp are just for ringtones etc.

i'm really really dispairing!!!!

anyone else any ideas??????? :(

This is what the whatsapp web recomended

Reboot the phone
Delete and reinstall WhatsApp
Make sure that background data is checked under phone Settings > Accounts and Sync
For HTC devices, try turning off fast boot in your phone settings
Verify that your google mail account is working properly
Turn off Wi-Fi

If that doesn't work download a program called Advanced Wifi Lock, enable it and it should receive messages when the phone is on sleep mode. If you have 3g or EDGE should work fine...

Hey @elomelia, are you still having that problem? Did u managed to find the solutions? Well, I'm currently facing the same problem as urs, messages delayed for few mins, Whatsapp doesnt notify me the incoming messages when my phone is locked...and I'v tried every step that Whatsapp FAQ recommended, but it doesnt make any improvement....I'm afraid there is something wrong with my Google Push notification service, I even sent an email to whatsapp, but they havent replied anything, quite a few days ago I sent the email....this problem occured eversince i updated my Whatsappp to a newer version, please help me

Wow. Apparently not only me faces this problem? Me too. Ever since I use the latest versions, this problem arised. I dont rmb I faced this problem in the past.

Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Use Packet Data (Checked)

That works for me .. or try any other above solutions which didn't help me but it might works for you!

Hey Emily,

I had a similar problem, but for me it was because I enabled the setting of holding back my back button to kill an application. I believe the HTC Wildfire S has that option on the android? I have a Samsung Galaxy S and recently, I began holding back the back button to kill the whatsapp application to exit it. Only after killing the application, I wouldn't get notifications because it wouldn't be running in the background. I don't know if you are doing that, but that was my issue.

I use the Samsung Galaxy Ace II.

I too have been having this issue with notifications, no matter if I have the notifications set to always have pop up or any of the other options the problem still exists.

I am trying now to close the app with the button at the bottom of my phone instead of killing it with the back button, will report back the results.

Can I ask, those that have this issue, do you see the last seen info right away as soon as you open a contact within WhatsApp? I ask because if I have my screen locked for awhile, then I go into the app and look at a contact, the last seen info is missing then it shows up about 20 seconds later, it's like it's having to connect again.

Will see if that happens now that I am using the close button at the bottom instead of the back button cause I noticed that the app shows as active by doing it that way.
