Indeed. The app is "CM Security", which is an app that's best uninstalled. But it is possible that it came pre-installed, in which case you may not be able to do that.

Go to Setting > Applications (or nearest equivalent - some manufacturers, such as Samsung, rearrange this menu), select "All" and look for "CM Security". Click on it and if you can "clear data" and "uninstall". If "uninstall" isn't available, try "disable". If that's not an option tell us what phone/OS version you have.

To be clear, this isn't malware in the sense that it will make your phone part of a botnet or anything like that, but it does steal private data and upload it to the owners, who make their money from spam, so you are better getting rid of anything from Cheetah Mobile.

Be advised that some imports come with CM pre-installed and can only be removed with root. What kind of phone is it?
Frankly the only phone that I'm aware of that possibly came with CM Security pre-installed would be the Cubot Cheetahphone.

Some Samsungs and a few other devices do have "Clean Master SDK" however, and is given different names like "Smart Manager" on the Samsung devices.

... and don't stop with that one. What I gove to my customers is ...

Although all the above are very true and helpful, I think you need to understand that there is no need to get anxious about this. No serious harm will happen. It is just best that you find a way to remove the application to have a better protected privacy.

If an app is a privacy risk it's not just your privacy: we all have other people's details on our phones, so it's worth taking this stuff more seriously than (sadly) many people do.

Yeah, you're totally right. Only point is that there is no need to panic. Just need for appropriate action.

I'm inferring that the user in this case is concerned with privacy and are inquiring for an unknown application they found. So they probably take that seriously enough. ;)

It is something you ought to keep in mind and correct at your earliest convenience.

When you find that someone you trusted is a liar (Cheetah Mobile) and you choose to continue dealing with them ... you deserve whatever happens to you.

The first programming job I had that I got paid for was in Cobol on an IBM machine. A simple 80 statements generated 32 pages of errors. I was dumbfounded as to where to start. The most brilliant person I ever worked with said ... fix the obvious problems and you will be surprised how many non obvious problems disappear.
