Can't move apps to SD card after software update - Android Assistant

Hi,

I recently downloaded a software update and it appears to have moved all apps back to phone memory and there appears to be more way of moving them back to my SD card.

When I use the normal method (settings >apps) or use App2sd within android assistant the option to move apps to sd card is no longer present, and instead only the option to force stop or uninstall. See screenshots.

In addition to this, I'm also finding many apps have been uninstalled and are no longer present on the device and others are installed but cannot be opened. See screenshot

No screenshots visible in your post. But I know that third-party tools like App2SD require your phone, tablet, TV box, or whatever it is device you've got there to be rooted in order to move apps to SD.. Do you know if it's still correctly rooted after this software update?

What do you mean by correctly rooted? No idea why the screen shots didn't attach first time. They should contain all the information

"Rooted" means that the phone has been hacked to give you administrator access. If the phone OS doesn't support moving apps to SD then you'd need root access to do this.

And it's not inconceivable that an OS update has done this, since that feature was officially deprecated in 4.0 and 6.0 brought an alternative way of doing this (formatting the SD as "internal" storage - which however also means you lose the flexibility to use it in a different device, and "formatting" means you need to back up all data first). But as this seems to be a Vodafone model (i.e. a phone made specifically for Vodafone) it is them who will have decided to make such a change, if they did so.

Hello,

Recently, I am also wondering to move some photos and music from the phone internal memory to a new 16GB Micro SD card. And, the suggested methods also work on a Samsung android cell phone?

I've not rooted my phone if that's what you mean. I've never rooted an android device. That's never been necessary to move an app to the SD card. The option has always existed in apps manager. There's always been a "move to SD card" button. However the button is now no longer there. How can I get this option back or otherwise find another way to move the apps to the SD card?

The "move to SD" option was actually removed from Android in 4.0. Many manufacturers added it back to at least some of their devices, so you might not have discovered that, but nevertheless you could at any time in the last 4-5 years have bought a device and found that the option isn't there.

If your current OS no longer supports then your only way of getting it back without rooting would be to revert to an older version of the OS. Whether that is possible will depend on what device you have, as will how you do it.

Otherwise the only options involve rooting the device, since changing where and how the OS stores apps requires making modifications to the system, and that requires root.

OK, I have the Vodafone Smart ultra 6.how can I find out how to revert to the previous OS version?

I've no idea for that device. All I could do would be search the web.

As Bobby says, there is another option if you have been upgraded to 6.0: you could format your sd as internal storage. Works best with a fast card, obviously all data should be backed up first, and if you do this the card will only work in the phone (won't be able to put it in a different device without reformatting it again), but it will give you more storage for apps.

OK, that sounds like a solution, how do I format my SD card as internal storage?
