Whatsapp not automatically download photo/video

I have ticked all relevant boxes to enable "media auto-download" from "setting" to allow the app to automatically download photo/video sent from friends.

Unfortunately, it is not working properly and I need to download manually after being sent photo/video.
Just wonder how it can be fixed. Thanks in advance. :)

Possibly a bug with WhatsApp on your particular phone or tablet? Might be worth you emailing them about it, tell what device you've got, Android version, etc, and see if they have any work-around, or bug-fix, or other suggestions.

I agree with mikedt. There is an option "contact us" in WhatsApp settings» help. You can tell them tour problems there. I would like to say that, when WhatsApp tries to auto download some media, and if it fails because there is some network problem then it won't try to download them again. (I noticed this on an older version)

Does this happen to all videos/photos? If no, then your network may not be good (don't loose hope, maybe if you report this problem to WhatsApp, they may get it fixed)

I really don't loose [lose] hope by having all of your replies. :D

1) When I noticed the problem, I got the app updated to the latest version: 2.17.107 from the previous version. Unfortunately, the results are the same.

2) The problem happens to all videos/photos (no matter what the size is) except when the phone is connected to WIFI. I am used to getting my phone connected to 4G network but I have also tried 2G network and 3G network respectively without getting the problem solved.

It works only on WiFi? That may be because you've selected WhatsApp settings» Data Usage» When connected on WiFi» All media.
Try WhatsApp settings» Data usage» When using mobile data» All media.

Well, even after the new updates from WhatsApp, maybe they haven't fixed the bug. (I noticed that on the previous version but I never used auto download now)

Still it is better to send a bug report to WhatsApp. And yes, you shouldn't have a task killer on your phone, WhatsApp warns that it will not work properly if you have a task killer before using it.

Thanks for your reply again. :D

The boxes of "when using mobile data" are also already ticked properly but the problem remains.

I also find interesting as I have two phones (by using 2 different network service providers) which have the same brand and model with almost identical apps installed (without any task killer). However, only one of them is affected by the problem.

Different network service providers? That means, one of them has a weak network. It's obvious, you just need to change your SIM card, the WhatsApp account will remain.

I was wondering though, how did you get two identical phones? :D

1) I will have a test by changing the SIM card of the affected one.

2) Sorry for not being able to write properly.
(a) The two phones are "identical" only in terms of their brand/model and of course one may look older/newer to the other after being used.

(b) The two phones also are "almost identical" in terms of the apps installed.

There is a piece of good news. After changing a new SIM card (from a different network service provider). The problem has no longer remained. Thanks again for your time and help.
