New, unwanted double lock screen

BIC2

Lurker
Android 6.0.1. This issue started a couple of weeks ago, not sure if it was related to an update or not. See, attached screenshot. This lock screen has recently been added over the standard lock screen. I now have to first swipe away this "Good Morning" lock screen before getting to the standard lock screen. Very annoying. Seems to mostly appear when on charger. Don't know how it got there and can't get rid of it. Can't find anything in Android settings. Maybe it's a Samsung add-on? My wife's S7 with Android 7 doesn't do this. P1050526.JPG Thanks.

Hi,

First of all... Welcome to the forum!

I can't say that I have had this problem myself, but I do recall reading another thread that claimed that the second lock screen was being added by the Peel remote app. Other users seemed to confirm that disabling this worked for them. if you have recently updated this (automatically or manually) then this is likely to be the source of your problem.

Regards,
Eric.

You're spot on - https://androidforums.com/threads/unwanted-lock-screen-overlay.1130144/

Different picture, but the UI looks very similar.

Yes, that link is the exact same lock screen, the picture rotates. A few hours ago, I noticed a settings icon (3 dots) in the upper right corner. It offers a mute option. I tried it and the screen has gone away. Not sure how long that will last. I'll wait and see if it holds. If not, I'll disable Peel Remote. Think I had previously disabled it, so maybe an update disabled the disabling. Too bad, like many other bloatware apps, it cannot be uninstalled.

Update. The mute option worked for about a week. Now I want to disable the Peel Remote app. When I click disable, it asks if I want to revert to factory version. You must say yes to disable. It uninstalls then installs the different version, but it is disabled. It does seem to get rid of the extra lock screen.

Thanks, I do now remember seeing something about an update to the Peel remote app before mine started doing this. Just uninstalled the app as it has never been used. I'm not sure the screen was ever turning off when this screen was on when I got up in the morning and walked up to it and before ever touching it.

Now, Avast is up to the same annoyance. I get the ad thing with a free app, but this is going to far. Anybody know how to get rid of the Avast double-lock screen without disabling say, notifications, which are probably important on an antivirus program.

I unistalled apps and testing to see if the extra lock screen was still there until I found that Super-Bright LED Flashlight from Surpax, Inc was the culprit. Annoying extra lock screen gone.

I know that particular flashlight, just so you know it's got too many permissions for what it does, e.g. it doesn't need internet access, and receive/send data to/from remote servers just to turn the LED on and make the screen backlight go full-bright.
