New software update changes

A few days ago my phone informed me of an update that was available. As always, I made it happen as soon as possible. However, I was quickly made aware that some things have changed along with this update that I'm not particularly fond of. The biggest offender is that when I am playing YouTube on the Google Chrome browser, I'm not permitted to leave the tab in which YouTube is playing, otherwise my video reset and stops. And I can no longer have the audio of the video playing in the background. Has this happened with anyone else?

On my mobile it was always like this: when it goes in background the sound stops. I think it is a feature to not drain the battery.

Ditto. It was like this on my m9 running 6  and now on my v20 running 7.

Same on my Oppo R9 Plus, 6.0.1. If the browser isn't in foreground, video and sound stops. Nothing to do with the Forums for Android app. I presume it is to save battery life and background data usage.
