2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

We're beginning to see reports of the OTA being included in update notifications via the *#*#checkin#*#* service.

I would not doubt if Verizon is far enough along in their random distribution to begin allowing the OTA to be polled for, again randomly, in addition to their own push.

Since either way it would do no harm, I ran this on my 2.1 v2 leak phone and my wife's 1.5 (stock) phone about 10:30 EST last night and then rebooted the phones after it was completed. Nothing happend at that time. But, she had the OTA ready for her this morning when I checked her phone at 5:30. My phone still has no OTA though... We are in Indianapolis, IN and have had the phones since the middle of December.

Anyway, I grabbed her phone this morning and told it to update. So, she is getting it whether or not it was because her number just came up or because of the *#*#checkin#*#*. Either way, it doesn't hurt to give it a shot and it looks like other's might also feel that this does seem to help...

Well, all I know is it hasn't worked for me, and I try it three or more times a day. I'm on 2.1V3 though, so that may be the issue.
 
Woke up this morning and OTA update is waiting to be downloaded two days after my wife's. WooHoo!

I check in last night and nothing. i did it twice then gave up. I do not know if *#*#checkin#*#* did the trick or not.

With the 2.1 I have a force close with google voice. Is there a known issue with that or I am just having software conflicts. I was doing this randomly with my 1.5 as well.
 
ok, i mean, how do we know that verizon is even really sending out a OTA? i think they just forgot about us eris owners now that the incredible is out. eris is EOL now so there is no reason to send an update...THEY LIED to us....

Got my update this morning!!!! However 2 things not working, aCar(was force closing as of yesterday prior to OTA) and Google Voice now force closing right off the bat(started happening after OTA) anyone else seen this?
 
Got the update at 12:30 am in Md. Few issues ive noticed so far...white texting fast, sometimes it hops back and forth from screens, it wont spell "HE" in text prediction (even after trying to add it as a new word, and then it gives me a text prediction force close type of message), I added a page of contacts i often call or text and some pictures along w their icon wont display, and its still pretty lasggy. However, it gets the settings and the camera like the incredible and so far i AM now able to recieve pic messages which was my biggest bug with 1.5. Oh and pretty much everything was there on the phone after the update, ya just have to go find it!

Just reinstall Google voice. Same thing happened on my wife's phone.
 
Got the update yesterday morning when I woke up. I am very happy with it so far. It is faster with less lag. I noticed when I go to landscape mode while texting it is instant instead of that 1-2 second lag. The marketplace is much better. More apps and pictures now with the description. I used the GPS on my way to work this morning and it seemed very accurate. It automatically updates your route if you go a different way than it says.

The only problem I've had so far is force close when trying to go to the weather.

I did find the virtual beer app that I never saw on 1.5. The iPhone users have to pay for the burp at the end. We get the burp for free. :D
 
I was thrilled to get the update yesterday, but I had all kinds of problems with it. It installed fine, but it seemed like every app would force close. I rebooted several times and still had problems. I couldn't uninstall apps; I couldn't log in to gmail; I couldn't sync all my contacts.

The phone was practically useless. After trying everything I could think of, I finally decided to perform a factory reset. I had to set up everything, and lost all of my scenes and settings, but it runs perfectly now. Just thought I would let everyone know in case they had the same problem.
 
DE checking in.. I just got the update notification. I just want to confirm that I will not lose my contacts since I have them auto sync w/Google..
 
I received the update this morning and installed it. Problem is, I lost all of my HTC widgets (weather, people, Twitter, etc.). Do I need to do a factory reset?
