Help Prevent app auto-install: Google Play Services for Instant Apps

majormbl

Lurker
My Samsung Galaxy J7 (T-Mobile) keeps automatically installing the unwanted app "Google Play Services for Instant Apps". I am not warned or prompted to approve the installation, and it happens at least daily before I uninstall it.

How can I prevent this and other unwanted apps from automatically installing?

Google Play has its own settings. Go to the home page and tap on the three bars on the top left. Go to almost the bottom and you should see "Settings". Tap on that and the first setting is for the updates. Tap on it and pick "Do not Auto update apps". If you only want that single app not to auto-update, then go to the AOL's page. This time tap on the three dots on the top right. Then unchecked "Auto-update". That works for any installed app.

This does not work for this app.
It is considered to be part of Google Play Services, and whenever they launch a 'security update', this turd will be put right back onto your device, if it was included in the Google package that downloads when you first activate the device.

Then I do apologize for my error. There is an app named "Google Play Services for AR" that can be stopped and I must have thought that was the app in question. Thanks for the correction.

On a side note, I find it disturbing that Google Play Store does not even list the app, nor will it appear in a search, whether on the Play Store or via a browser on the web. (It does show up in other app stores.)

I was just going to leave one of my patent horrible reviews, and was ticked off to discover that I could not.

As for how I know they way it keeps getting installed, it just happened to me, and I was looking online for info, and found this thread, hahaha.

Anyway, Google does not allow users to specify which apps not to update, it is all or nothing.

Because Google Play Services is not considered to be a user app, you don't have any choice as to it being updated- regardless of your settings.

The only way I have found is to use a firewall to completely block internet access to the Play Store.

Of course, some apps must come from there to be compatible, and that is when I turned access on for about five minutes.

That is when the sneaky SOBs at Google pushed that turd right back onto my plate.

Mmmmmmm, steamy!

It doesn't pay to write bad reviews about Google apps even if they allowed you to. I tried a few years back and they kept deleting my review. (They mysteriously kept disappearing) When I gave up and wrote a positive review, it remained. (Surprise, surprise) Big Brother is always watching, BEWARE!

The same thing just happened to me, with Google Play Games.

For months, it has been a royal PITA, and this has continued through multiple updates.

I left a bad review, and the developer responded.
Something to the effect of 'We fixed it now, please try it now.'

Basically told them that I found an older version that works and that I wasn't going to update.

That disappeared quickly.

So I posted another, warning people that if they have this app and it works, not to update it.

I should go back and see.

I bet it is gone already.

I'd make the same bet.

That's the very first stripe you are take..you are on the right track..

Then you uninstall the instant app..then you delete the updates for Google play services and play store(don't delete cashe nor data for those apps, though)..

Then you install the magical older version..

You are all set..never again

What ever you do in your appguard..don't prevent the Google play services from getting internet..just the Google play store.
