Official 4G/WiMAX Coverage Areas

last year i bought the U300 3g/4G modem. Sprint refused to sell it to me because my zip code was not allowing them to do so.
Workaround...
But I explained to them that I'm a business traveler (big lie) and need it for Baltimore (at the time the only city up with 4G), so they special ordered it for me. Then when I upgraded to the U301 this past Oct, I got the same run around and game them the same excuse.

Although I am paying for the 4G service every month and only travel on occasion to cities like Las Vegas, Baltimore and Hawaii, I still feel it was worth having just in case. Both in LAS and HNL the service was top notch.

This morning I tested it due to what eieio said about NY being soft launched. and Yes I got a signal, only 2 bars mind you but still faster than the 3g at a full 5 bars.
It did take a while to connect though, but not much of a difference than when i was connecting in Hawaii or las Vegas back in Nov and Feb.
It could very well be in the testing phases, cause I did get dropped off once this morning.
I will see what it is at home, cause there is a verizon tower a block and a half away from my house. But can't tell if it has a wimax tower on it.

Thanks for your response.

Any update on the signal at your home?

Has anybody heard anything about Indianapolis? Every city around me seems to have 4G coming, St Louis, Cincinnati, Chicago... but no Indy.

I'm patiently waiting for Indy too.

If you go to Sprint's website and click on future towers for Indy, It shows four around us. No idea what those will be for, but a new tower can only mean good things. Either better cell coverage or Wimax. When you click on the data tab it still shows these Future towers.

Sprint - Nationwide Coveragehttp://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?INTNAV=ATG:FT:Cov

Looks like Plainfield, Mooresville, Lawrence and one farther north-east on 69.

Plainfield needs it, I can say that much for sure. I would think if they were going to put in new Wimax towers, they would start inside 465 and expand out.

eieio, would you have any possible guesstimate of a timeline for Tallahassee, Florida?

I had heard from someone that it may come here early next year, but you know how it is, taking everything with a grain of sand.

so I live in an area with "signal strength varies". Does this mean im screwed? I dont really mind the fact that my tiny little city will never get 4g (Charleston WV), but will I at least be be able to use the SS with decent service? I dont know anyone who has sprint personally, so I cant ask

WV is slated to get upgraded 3g and 4g coverage.

It was a former IPCS area and Sprint bought/buying them out along with others..

They will covert the IPCS areas to 3g EVDO and add 4g services as well..

Also Clearwire had a 3g service similar to Wimax those former areas will get 4g updates as well

TS. Can you tell if the device has been assigned an MAC Address.
What? my U301 3g/4g device. Yes its has.

since yesterday the speed is increasing for the download, upload is still around the same number. Hopefully by actual announcement date the numbers go up as high as whats been reported elsewhere in the country.

As for the signal at home, I got home too late and besides the forum was down anyway. so i did not take out my laptop to test at home.

I have a spreadsheet/image that I will upload later to the forum showing the 3g and 3g speedtests that i performed using my 3g/4g datacard/modemout in Baltimore, Oahu, Las Vegas since Nov, and now New York City

Ok here is my question:

I currently have the Overdrive and I am on the 3g data plan. I just spoke to Sprint and told them I am traveling on business do i need the 4g plan to access the 4g signal. They said "NO i do not need the 4g plan".

Can anyon please confirm this?

thanks.

Well, I called & they said all the major cities in Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee) will be covered by summer. This is what the account srvcs rep explained to me for an internal email document she had received. She was located in Orlando herself & said she was going to purchase an Evo also & was excited about seeing that Orlando is one of the locations that will offer 4G by Summer. Looks like I'm stuck paying the $10 add-on but at least I'll have 4G srvc so it's cool.

DC metro area will be "officially" launched in three weeks or less. More cities in VA and MD have been added..

I've been watching to see if anyone has heard about VA, Richmond to be more specific. A Sprint store manager told me we'll have it by the end of the summer, but I don't know if he knew for sure or just trying to sell me a phone. But I'll cross my fingers

Richmond is a old Clear area they sold a 3g service before they joined forces with Sprint..

They are converting Richmond over to the new 4g service.. End of summer is time lime for conversion..
