I live in SoCal, but it is not local to me people all over the USA report it. search the board here, or the "Droidforums.net" board, ongoing topic.. it is not a localized issue.

there was even some "proof" - I use that loosely - that a base band change was made and that going back to the old base band, if your rooted, got back that awesome reception. there are even links to the old base band to do so.
 
I've seen your posts in the other thread about it, and sorry to hear you guys are having problems - but again, my Droid hasn't. Very rarely in my area have I ever dropped below 3 bars so can't say I have that issue. Not using the official release if that makes a difference to you I've been on Pete's stock ESE81 since release, and was on cyanogen before that.
 
It's not, its the C_01.3E.03P new one. on 2.6.29 chevyno1 low voltage kernel. I live in Harrisburg metro area (state capital) , sitting at 3 bars right now as I type.
 
I've been using PDA phones since the end of 2003 (before that it was a phone and a separate pda), I've used just about every model on verizon's network. Typically I change after 3 to 6 months.

After 6 months with my droid, I don't forsee myself changing for a long time. Infact I'm planning on buying another new motorola droid as a backup incase anything happens to mine.

I evaluate and recommend Smartphones to a large executive staff for a large university. So I've had my hands on virtually every phone on every carrier.

can't wait till the droid 2/shadow comes out.

I have the exact same setup as you, except I am running Bekit 1.2 LV Kernel. My reception has remained great as well...

yep. did a whole thread on it here.. that is where you will see some talk about the poor reception drop since 2.1 - as well as in other threads that talk about declining reception.

did you read the link in post #12 to see more?
 
When I rooted my Droid I had to name the SBF file "update.zip" and it is on my sdcard as such. Naming the basebanddowngrade file to "update.zip" only brings up a message telling me that I already have a file on my sdcard with that name and if I want to replace it with this one. Not sure what to do here.
 
My Droid came with 2.1. :p I haven't had 4 bars very often but haven't had any major issues either.. should I be worried? ;) my bars do like to fluctuate from 0 to 2 in the same spot however sometimes. But that doesn't really bother me,as long as calls work

im with this poster.. my wife has an upgrade in august and im seriously thinking about getting a droid if they are selling them for cheap on an upgrade. if not, droid 2 for me :)

Locate the SBF update.zip and rename it by putting "SBF" in front of it so you know what it is. (You probably will not need it again, but I'm not qualified to tell you whether you will or not.) Then you can rename the baseband downgrade file to "update.zip" and run it.
 
The droid is great, I have 0 regrets! One thing though. My droid gets full bars (EVDO) in my home. Even in my basement. However, I only get 1 to 2 bars (1x voice) when I make a call in my basement. I would think it would actually be just the opposite. Not exactly sure what frequency Verizon operates on in Philly. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Okay, that makes sense. It must be that it only needs to be named update.zip when you use it to install. Any other time it can be named something else so you can use the name update.zip to install the next item. Is that right?
 
I just want to say that the Droid is the best product I have ever purchased in my life. It has literally changed my life.
