MIRROR TO TV

Lurker
I know Samsung took away on the S6 the option to use a HDMI adapter to see my screen on the tv. I dont have internet at home so chromecast is out, Is there any other options to watch my movies on the tv from my phone

As long as your TV includes support for WiFi, your S6 should have support for 'Wi-Fi Direct', which allows you to set up an ad-hoc wireless network (no need for a router). Not a fan of Wi-Fi Direct as it incorporates WPS, a well-documented security weak point, into its auto-configuration set up process but if you don't have any home network in place it's an optional, marginal solution.

Needs to be noted that Miracast still requires some kind of WiFi connectivity so either a router or a device on the other end that supports Wi-Fi Direct (or some other ad-hoc wireless connectivity technology) is required.
-- If the OP does have a TV that already has its own WiFi support, a Miracast isn't necessary.
-- If they have an older TV that doesn't have any WiFi capability but does have an HDMI port than something like a Miracast fits right into the mix.
-- If it's a really old TV, Roku still sells its Express+ adapter, which adds WiFi support and plugs into a TV using a composite cable (with those red-yellow-white plugs on each end).

Do research bro. I have 2 of them and only 'smart TV's' have the MiraCast hardware built-in. I don't have ANY WiFi at my house and use MiraCast all the time. You simply turn on the WiFi toggle on the phone, go to settings-display or pull down quick settings and select Cast and choose the device you're connecting to. Bam, done.

My mistake, I wasn't aware Miracast provided its own Wi-Fi Direct support. Still, what advantages does the OP have buying one over using what's already supported in their S6?

No problem. 😇 Umm.. MiraCast is supported by every OS above KK, I believe (sometimes labeled 'screen cast' by original mfgr) and his S6 should operate it just fine. So the next part of the question relates to the previous statements on TV's: Which kind of TV is being used. Most regular HD TVs need a MiraCast adapter (about $15), while smart TVs don't since it's built-in. 😉
