Help Rooting Sony Xperia X Performance from safe, no-cost site - possible?

I've been doing a lot of reading on the internet and keep coming across the https://www.oneclickroot.com site. But they require $89.00 or so for what I want in a root package.

I'm concerned about the safety of the procedure and the downloaded files. Is there no safe place that provides a rooting file system but that doesn't cost? To have to root to begin with so that I can backup files is really silly to me, so having to pay for this is like adding insult to injury. And all the work involved, too <g>. But find a secure place to do this with that doesn't cost, like in the Linux world (I do so love Linux!) and hope that Android is Linux enough that there is a safe place to do this from for Android, too.

Can anyone point us in the right direction to this type of resource? It's getting so confusing trying to sift through all the available information out there.

Thanks in advance very much! :oD

One click root... All i have to say for or to them is thanks for the business. I have had to fix, root correctly etc. So many devices that were trusted to them lol.

Anyways if it's possible, which most Sony devices get alot of developer support.. The best place to download what you need is from this site or Xda developers if available.

Edit: here you go, looks easy to me.

Yes! Those 'scare' me as they're not official and who knows what people are peddling/pushing! Thanks.

That looks extremely promising! I don't have $89 to fork over so looking to do this myself, as I did with Linux when I was on that OS for nearly 2 years, as an example of this type of DIY. Looks like this is a way to go with my brother's Sony Xperia.

I'll report back, if I may, on how successfully this goes (just in case anyone else going through something similar).

But one thing that's a dang moment, I have to get back to v6 when I just spent time upgrading my brother's phone to latest version possible, as it wouldn't go to Oreo (Nougat, I think is where it stopped at). <lol> Talk about one step forward-one step back! I'll have to downgrade to back up something called the "TA Partition". Will do so but this shows me I should have come here first to ask my question before doing anything else <lol>.

Thanks and cheers!
