Adds popping up in messaging and gallery

Foxy Roxy

Lurker
I have dug around but cannot find an answer
Can anyone tell me why I am getting adds on my s8
When I open my photo's or messages. My phone just started doing this. I ran my phone in safe mode and also downloaded adguard. Still getting adds. They blast real loud if I forget to turn media down and it about gives my husband a heart attack because it blast and wakes him up from sleep. Also deleted most apps. Please I hope someone can help me!

I would give the apps/games that I had installed around the time the adds started showing up a serious look.
It's most likely something running piggy back with something that you have installed.

Wouldn't safe mode filter out any installed apps?

It really should. I'll ask a stupid question to Foxy Roxy. It wasn't quite clear in your post. Did you get the ads while in safe mode or after you exited into normal running? If you are still getting them while in safe mode something isn't right. I've got an s8 myself and none of the pre installed apps have ever given me adds.

No first I was in safe mode and ran my phone in that mode.just like I read to do. Then I went into normal mode. Do you think Samsung is letting a 3rd party send adds?

How would I be able to tell?
If the ads show up WHILE you're in safe mode (it should say safe mode on the bottom left of your screen) then something is really wrong here.

If you're in safe mode and the ads are not there, but when you return to regular mode, they come back, then there must be an app that's sending these ads to you.

Are there any ads that you got right before this started? Any flashlight apps or games or antivirus or any other apps that ask for too many permissions?

Have a look at the free NoRoot Firewall app at the PS.

You can allow or deny wifi and/or data web accesses to your phone on an app by app basis. This will allow you to determine which app(s) are the cuprit(s).

Once you find the culprit app(s), you can then further refine allowing/denying web accesses by the app(s) on a URL by URL basis. This will allow you to isolate which URL is sending the unwanted ads.

A pretty cool little app which I use the hell out of.

Thank you so much❣ I will try that and the firewall app.

Still a little unclear. But A bochur explained it how how I was going to. Just because the problem stopped while you were in safe mode doesn't really have any relevance until you start your phone in regular mode. Safe mode means only your system apps (pre installed) are running so the adds were coming from somewhere else. Restarting into regular won't uninstall any app that you'd downloaded that caused the problem. So if the problem exists now and not then, then it's something you downloaded. It'll take a bit of time but try uninstalling a couple at a time and see if the adds stop. If not reinstall and delete a couple more and try again ;)

Have you installed anything by GO, UC, DU(Baidu), ES Explorer, Cheetah Mobile, Qihoo 360, flashlight apps with excessive permissions, etc, all are possible adware culprits.
