Red LED Nexus 5X

Since Oreo update, I seem to get a red flashing LED when I first disconnect the charging cable in the morning. No related notifications, and it stops after I check notifications. Other threads on the web suggest this is either a dead battery or a dead Nexus. My battery seems fine and the Nexus is very much alive. Does anyone know what this means?

Have you tried going into you text messages, missed calls, etc... and making sure all are marked read?

Sometimes if you get a text message and physically "read it" through a notification but swipe it away and never view it directly in the app, you'll get the persistent flashing red LED until it's marked read.

It's possible that the update reset your notification preferences for the stock messaging app or a 3rd party app that you downloaded and all messages (by default or for a specific contact) are being marked urgent, which could cause this.

I've checked every messaging app, no unread messages. A little more data: this morning at 6:30 am there was no LED. The next time I looked, at 7:30, there was a red LED. Opening and closing the phone had no effect. As soon as I swipe down to check notifications, the red LED stops. No indication of what was causing it. The only correlation I can think of is the ending of my downtime.

@MikeInMexico try going to:
  • Apps & Notifications
  • Advanced
  • Special App Access
  • Notification Access
What is listed? Maybe unselect all and see if this fixes it?

Also try looking in the list of "Recent Apps" in the top of the Apps & Notifications sections and see if there is anything listed that you didn't recently use.

I'm slowly testing my way through all these ideas (thanks everyone). I still had the problem as of this morning, and it only occurs in the morning. Today I've turned off 'special notification access' (whatever that is) for Android Wear. Stay tuned.

Hello, same issue here. I sometime (essentially when I take it on the morning) a red blinking led on my Nexus 5X since Oreo update, but everything works as usual ...

Does yours also stop after you check/clear any pending notifications?
