My phone will not turn on

I was on snapchat on my Samsung galaxy s6 and it suddenly turned off and started just showing the Samsung galaxy s6 powered by android screen. I have experienced this before so did what I usually do and held the volume down, power and home button together but this just redirects me to a screen saying 'Warning! A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications.

If you want to download a custom OS, press the volume up key.
Otherwise, press the volume down key to cancel. But if I do this it just sends me straight back to the Samsung galaxy s6 screen and none of the other key combinations work e.g. volume up, power and home. Nothing works and I'm worried because I get my new phone today and I will lose everything on my phone which I've had for 2 years. Someone please help I have looked on loads of other websites but nothing will work.

What happens when you just try to restart your phone normally, without using any key combinations?

Using those extra keys -- Power + Home + Volume Up buttons for 'Recovery Mode' and Power + Home + Volume Down buttons for 'Download Mode' -- both being different ways to start up your phone to perform specific system maintenance tasks, not what you need to just reboot your phone.

It won't turn off or anything it just stays in this Samsung galaxy s6 screen

When I go to go into recovery mode it doesn't work but download mode does. I let my battery die and then charged it but it still won't work.

Try doing a force restart -- hold down just the Volume Down and Power buttons for several seconds, until it reboots.

If that still results in that same start up screen, you could try starting up your S6 into its Safe Mode -- do a force restart and only while it's rebooting, press and hold down just the Volume Down button until it finishes starting up. If your phone does run while in Safe Mode, that's an indicator there's some third-party app that's messing things up. The problem now being to determine just which one. At least that's a step forward, but if neither a forced restart nor Safe Mode make any difference, it does sound like the Android operating system on your phone has become corrupted in some way and it needs to be re-flashed.
In that case we'll need to know the exact model of your S6 and your carrier.

The screen just goes black and then it comes back to the Samsung galaxy s6 screen again. How do I find my serial number?

Another thing you could try is Samsung's 'Smart Switch' utility:
https://www.rapidtricks.com/android-recovery-smart-switch/
If it cannot restore your S6, it might be able to at least provide you with the model I.D. You might also want to dig through your original documentation that came with your phone when you first received it, buried in the specifications the model I.D. might be listed there. If Smart Switch can't re-flash the firmware for you, then you might want to try and do so manually. But it is important to get the correct ROM for your specific model. ROMs are not interchangeable and there is no 'universal' version that works on any phone. Flashing a ROM for a different model phone will often brick it, or at best give you limited, inconsistent functionality.

My device won't even connect to the smart switch through my charger

It says my device needs to be unlocked but I can't access my phone at all.

If your phone can't start up into its Recovery Mode that could be part of the problem. Try again following those Smart Switch instructions.
But if the Recovery on your phone is also corrupted, you'll need to re-flash the ROM manually (which should restore both the Recovery and the firmware). That will involve using a utility called Odin, available here:
http://www.droidviews.com/download-odin-tool-for-samsung-galaxy-devices-all-versions/
Your profile link indicates you're using EE as your carrier, yes?
If so your model I.D. is SM-G920F You can download a valid, Samsung stock ROM from either sammobile or updato, both are good sources.
Sammobile

Updato

At the bottom of the actual download page for sammobile there are basic instructions on the steps to follow to re-flash a ROM.

Long shot but have you tried holding all four buttons, power, home, volume up and volume down. I've heard of that working before.

Tried already. Really pissed that this has happened because if it had happened just 2 hrs later I would have had all of my photos and game data from TWO ****ing years. Thank god I'm moving to iPhone I cannot be ****ed with all the shit that happens with androids.

So how does it work? Do I get the Odin software then get the Sammobile or just the Sammobile?

You might want to start the ROM download (from either sammobile or updato) first as it's a 1GB+ file. While that's downloading, get the Odin utility and install it on your PC. You'll also need the Samsung driver so your PC can access your phone.
Then start your S6 up into its Download Mode, connect it to your PC using a good USB cable, and start up the Odin utility (as admin). Follow those instructions step-by-step to flash that recently obtained ROM from your PC to your phone. As it's a sizable amount to transfer over it will take several minutes.
