S5 screen shuts down every two seconds

Just got a used a S5, and I am about to send it back.

The screen shuts down every few seconds. I have to press that home button constantly to use the phone.

Any fix for this? Or just send it back.

What's "every few seconds"? The minimum screen timeout, at least on my S5, is 15 seconds. If it's less than that and changing the timeout setting doesn't affect it then there may be something wrong with the phone and you'd be justified to send it back. Might want to try a factory reset first to see if that helps.

When you go into your S5's Settings >> Display >> Sleep menu, what is it currently set on? If the display is indeed going to sleep every 'two seconds' there is some problem that warrants a repair but otherwise just try setting it for a minute to two, or more (but do keep in mind the display does use up a good amount of battery power so letting it go back to sleep sooner rather than later is a trade-off between convenience and battery charging.)

I should have mentioned. This happens when the phone is plugged in and charging.

When the phone is fully charged, I unplug it and have a different problem: the battery drains unbelievably fast.

I unplug the phone, get on the internet for about two minutes, and the batter charge is 87%.

When the phone is plugged in, and I try to use it, the screen does not stay on for 15 seconds, or anything close to that. I might get three or four seconds, certainly no more than that.

I am not a great phone enthusiast. Before I got this S5 I had an old Motorolla Bravo. The Bravo may be old, and low end, But I can still use it for about 3 days before I have to charge it. With this S5, I doubt I could get though a single day, certainly not if I use it much.

I still suspect the battery, it is battery condition not charge that causes this, Li-Ion batteries tend not to degrade gently as lead acid one would, they just go and no amount of charging will help. Phil
p.s. Is there anyone you know with the same phone, you could try their battery in your phone.

I'm going to agree with @philayl on this. It sounds like a bad battery. @Fox Mulder , if the battery is putting out lower than expected voltage it might jump to a 'power saver' mode before completely shutting off, thus putting the screen to sleep prematurely.

Dude you should do two things..

First do a factory reset since is a second hand phone..you are supposed to start fresh..you don't know what the previews owner had on it..

Second, the battery sounds like needs to be recycled..they aren't really expensive..just saying.
