consider only watches on oreo list?

Since Android came out with their list of devices that have or will get Oreo, does that mean I shouldn't buy a device not on list?

I'm shopping for my first wearable and I'm lost in the sea of devices.

If you have a Samsung you can also consider the Gear. They aren't running Android so they on the list, but they're some of the best watches.

I wouldn't worry about it, especially for your first wearable. The functionality isn't going to change all that much with an older watch. The question is, what do you want in a watch? I currently have a Fossil that's my everyday smartwatch and I'm very happy with it.

I have a pixel.

I keep reading the reviews on all the wearables that I'd even consider and some of them are scary. A lot of them complain about battery life - ok I discount some of those due to specific apps, then I discount the iphone users (duh) and the rest of the negative reviews say the watches die from 2-12 months.

I do like the fossil venture - common negative reviews are it's difficult to set up and customer service sucks. I'm glad to hear you are happy with it. It's probably top on my list.

I also like the michael kors - negative reviews seem to indicate connectivity problems.

DH wants me to get a garmin fenix 5 (we do ironmans) but I think I want the android wear functionality not just the smart notifications.....

I'm more confused then when I started looking!

Well, let me say this about that ...

Negative reviews are to be taken with a grain of salt, a wink, a nod and asbestos gloves. A lot of times you have to read between the lines to discover why the reviews are negative. Sure if there's a design flaw that will come out pretty quickly, but a lot of times it's either unrealistic expectations or someone's inability to read. Granted, manufacturer's do have product defects, but that's why there are warranties. You also must consider that dissatisfied customers are much more likely to write a negative review, than satisfied customers are likely to write a positive one.

I started with a Moto360, and while it was a decent watch and one of the better looking devices, the battery only lasted 18 months before it started to fail. It was a "version 1" product, so i'd expect a glitch or two. I replaced that with the Fossil Q Founder (read my review here) last year and it's still my daily driver, holding a charge for a few days and looks great.

That last part is what's important to me. I want a watch to look like a watch, not an iPod with a wrist strap. You see, I appreciate a good watch. I currently have Tag Heuer, Movado, Gucci, Raymond Weil, Breitling, just to name drop a few. ;) Most smartwatches don't have that look. The Fossil does, to a point.

All smartwatches are going to be a compromise. Either in looks, performance, convenience, etc. You have to decide what you want. If you are looking for a fitness tracker, then I think any watch will be a disappointment. They range from pretty poor, to just okay. None of them that I have ever seen do that well. If you want something for your ironman training, then get something dedicated. (and easily washable ;) )

I took a look at the Michael Kors Grayson and it looks very nice. I didn't see too many reviews about it so it must be pretty new. I wouldn't mind owning one. You have to understand though that smartwatches are not taking the world by storm. They are still very much a niche product.

Wow - thank you for that :)

I definitely take them with a grain of salt but I do tend to look for trends.

I don't think I want an activity tracker for daily wear - who cares if I get my steps in while I'm at work ;)

I like nice watches too - I rotate between my Michele, Michael Kors and Citizen so I guess that's what I want too - a nice watch that looks like a watch, has the android capabilities I love, and a decent battery life (in the winter I work 14 hour days so I need it to last). Oh, and I'm a woman with a small wrist so I can't be carrying 5lbs or it'll look silly ;)

Thanks - I think I'll look harder at the Fossil and the MK and make a decision. I haven't had a new toy in forever......

Or they just shrink it by 15% but is still looks very masculine (Moto360 ver2).

I think the assumption is that any ladies who are into android/smartwatches have to be a bit nerdy to begin with so they want something like that.

LOL that may be true - but I think 42mm to 47mm is still a difference worth checking out. I'm headed to best buy after work just to see what they have if anything in stock to try.

(and it doesn't have to be a "ladies" watch - I think I've just been drawn to the ones that come in colors other than black on black)

I always thought colors other than neutral silver/gold/black were rather limiting. I mean you wouldn't wear a blue watch with a green blouse? How gauche! ;)

Seriously, you might want to go with a plainer watch and just swap the bands. Most take standard watchbands and are fairly easy to change.

I'm a jeans and t shirt kinda girl - and I rarely match my socks to my outfit ;)

which Fossil do you have? :)

The Q Founder 2nd gen. It's still got the "flat tire" but I prefer dark screens so you don't really notice it.

I really like the Fossils and keep my eye on them to replace my two year old Huawei watch, but I can't unsee the flat tire. :(
