Where is the camera's 'Exposure Compensation' function?

I recently switched from an iPhone 5, love this phone.

When taking photos on my iPhone of a subject against a bright background, I could easily tap / hold on the screen then slide up to lighten up the image (called Exposure Compensation on normal cameras).

I don't know whether this, most basic, functionality exists on the S8, but I havn't been able to find it. I'm really talking about taking a picture quickly in the 'Auto' mode, the 'Pro' mode only seems to provide Manual exposure settings (where Exposure Compensation becomes redundant), which is a bit more fiddly than Auto.

I think the closest function to the one you're looking for is called Auto HDR.

From memory, it works by taking 3 pictures that are over, correctly and under exposed and merging different areas to get the best picture. It's one pf the options along the left hand side of the screen.

If that doesn't work, you can try another camera app, there are plenty on the Play Store to try. Camera Zoom Fx is ok, as is Footej Camera
 
I don't have an S8, but I've met a number of phone cameras where changing the focus point (by tapping on part of the image) also adjusts the exposure (weighting it more towards the point you tapped on). Don't know whether the S8 does that, just putting it out as something to test.
 
In Pro Mode, the middle option on the left hand side of the screen allows you to set the metering. Matrix, Spot, Centre. Spot will allow you to set the exposure based on where you've tapped.

Interesting: my Pixel's stock camera does the same. But it only stays for a few seconds, so unless you were intending to bring it up and so looking for it, rather than at the point you tapped, you'd probably not notice it.

I see the exact same behavior on the S8. It stays on the screen for a few seconds, then disappears.
