Help Recovering Photos after Hard Reset?...

MWFrels

Newbie
This past Monday while trying to diagnose a low signal / no connectivity to the AT&T RG(router) wifi in my house I accidentally did a hard reset during a frustrated moment. Major losses due to not backing up stuff the last two years were Contacts and all my photos. The contacts I can get 95% of from previous phone sitting in closet. All the family photos of the last two years are only on this phone. Is there a way, an app, or software that can flip the switch on these now invisible files so I can enjoy them again? And this time back them up in multiple places...

Login to your Google account on a PC and check to see if they are synced there. I believe it's on by default on most newer phones. You may have been backing them up all this time without knowing it.

If they are not there, then unfortunately there's not much hope for getting them back. :(

Unfortunately no photos ever made it to my Google account. Thanks for the suggestion. That is one of my choices for backing them up moving forward though.

Bummer. :(

I've really come to like having desktop access to my photos without having to copy them all over the place with Googles Photos. Just make sure you set your photos to sync on WiFi only or you could blow through a lot of mobile data.

android forums is littered with people "who spring out of nowhere" and recommend similar software, or people who try software like that and didn't succeed.

Good luck.. but i wouldn't get too excited just yet

It won't work.

The volume structure in Android since 4.1 won't let these file sector scanning utilities access your internal storage. I've gone through this drill with several members here and not one of them could find anything other than a few thumbnail images stored on their PC (NOT the phone). If you ask me, these companies are preying on the desperate.

Thanks gents! Input like you have provided is what I am looking for. I already made one big mistake this week. I really do not want to fork out the $$ for something that has less than a 99% chance of providing $1-2 worth of return.

OK this Is not guarenteed to work but it's free and up to you to try...
There is a program I use for examining Android /system and /data images (.img) files and it's real good for what your trying to do .
it's free and it's what lots of big Alphabet soup agencies here use. (fbi, cia, nsa, osp, etc)

it's called Autopsy you can check out their site here (short link just skip the ad)

I usually use a P.c or an SDcard to create a DUMP of the partitions I'm manipulating
and use the system.img or in your case userdata.img as an input file for the program and it finds EVERYTHING, downside, it searches every byte and it can take 24 hours to finnish depending on your hardware...

but it's probably your best chance for a Free solution,
other wise send it to a mobile data recovery specialist..
that'll cost ya.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the pointer Astr4y4l. It looks a little possibly above my head type stuff but I might just give it a shot. I will let you know if I do and what results I achieve.

Merry Christmas all!
