Help Identical folders?

JAy3001

Android Expert
So I have 2 identical download folders in my internal storage which are:

downloads
Downloads

They both hold indentical files, if I download a file it appears in both. If I delete a file it disappears from both. Possibly a weirdness from the beta program?

Looks like I'll have to back the folder up and delete one and see what happens, then restore and see if I end up with a dopoganger again!

Anyone else noticed this oddness?

So I backed the folder up and deleted the..

Download

Folder and as if by magic the..

download

Folder disappears too.. plugged my phone back into the PC and the system recreated the

download

Folder. Restored everything into said folder and tested for a bit and all seems well with planet oddness for tonight.:thinking:

Yes I know!
That is weird right?
I'm afraid it's actually a worse case than just the Downloads folder...
Are you still using the Galaxy S8?
Or a Galaxy device?
Try to check to see if you have a myriad of other duplicate files on your phone using the duplicate finder in the Galaxy App: My Files>settings>get more space.

Cuz I'm not so sure everything is right with the world yet :-(

1st I noticed:
One folder named:
Downloads
The other folder:
downloads

Very similar, but they are different..
I thought this was just a quirky android (or Samsung layer of android,) thing that gave some added functionality elsewhere..
But after I continued looking through my files, I noticed some very odd things, duplicate folders, spelled almost exactly the same, even of folders that I created.

For instance: I created a folder with 2 initials, and 2 periods:
J.R.

But now, there is a 2nd folder, identical info inside, named:
J.R
(No period at end)
Whats worse, ITS INVISIBLE TO ME! (at least while using the 'My Files,' app, which I have set to see all system files/folders.) Aaaaaand : if I delete an item in one folder, with in 5 or so seconds the file is removed from the other folder as well! This cannot be good. The only reason I noticed it was by using the Built-in duplicate finder! I would not have found it otherwise..

The reason this was concerning to me is because the only other time I saw this file behavior, was after deleting video files that were downloaded via video stream and download program. The app would seemingly keep files on my phone after they were 'deleted,' from the app & from the My Files program. However they apparently remained, they just made them invisible (at least to the My Files App,) unless I used the advanced function of searching large files or duplicate files.

MY FILES>SETTINGS>GET MORE SPACE

Coincidentally I just learned the streaming program is potentially unsafe.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I also recently began receiving threats from my own email address claiming a hacker has stolen all my files.. Initially I thought it was just a blanket bluff scam campaign, now I'm wondering, perhaps they really do?

Anyone else experience anything like this?

I was thinking about digging this post up the other day @RonRizzle .

The issue I was having with the download folder is now resolved. It was a Samsung screw up, when I went up to android 8.0 via the beta program someone at Samsung decided to create a system folder (or bugged code) called "download" which conflicted with the user folder "Download".

I am currently going through the beta program again for android 9 (beta 4) and Samsung have fixed the issue with the first beta, the duplicate folder is now called "download0001" and has all my old downloaded files in. However nothing is being added to it as I download new content, delete items etc..

When i checked the my files app you mention i don't see anything odd. I also tried to replicate the issue you had with the JR folder and it didn't happen for me.
