Can I freely cross this border?

I've learned that Canada and the US have the world's longest undefended border. Unlike the one between the US and Mexico. That's great news, right?

I live in Western Canada, specifically south-western BC, and I am curious about something: can I simply walk across the border without having border security catch me, that is, they simply let me cross without showing them my passport or documentation? I haven't tried that because I live on Vancouver Island, which means I can only get there via BC Ferries or air.

I know that in Western Europe, people can simply walk over borders no problem. In fact, there is a town that is literally on a border! But we don't really have anything of the sort here in Canada/USA other than Stanstead, Quebec.

In Surrey, BC, there is 0 Ave., which is along the Canada/US border on the Canadian side. One part of it is overlooking the park near the Peace Arch, on the American side. I'd love to simply walk across no problem, maybe even visit Bellingham or Seattle, WA. Would anything happen if I try that?

In the European Union it's known as the Schengen Area, which is basically completely open borders.
But in North America, isn't the POTUS, Trump going to be building walls on his international borders?
FWIW I did cross the US Canadian border both ways in 2003 at Niagara Falls, and that was full on international border, everyone had guns, with passport checks, searches, customs declarations, etc.

I thought he was only going to build a wall along the US/Mexico border. But I did hear he wanted to pull out of NAFTA, so I don't know... I hope that's not going to happen...

And almost every border crossing by road is like that. In the case of Southern Ontario, where Niagara Falls are located, it is separated from the US by rivers and Great Lakes, not just a border, and it is one of the most populated parts of Canada (surprising?), so it kinda makes sense.

the big wall.. trump wall... stupid wall...
is being built on the Mexican border.. because trump will make Mexico pay for it.
if Mexico pays for it.. i doubt they would pay for in on the Canadian side. :P

i have never crossed over to Canada.. but as i understand it... it used to be NOT enforced. passports are not required but that might have changed. due to the fear of terrorist entering USA via Cananda.

if there is a city that is on the border .. and it's streets are open.. how do they enforce that??

looking at google map.. even though it looks open and anyone can WALK across border. Roads / streets do NOT cross openly. They are either on one side or the other.
only roads that cross have border gates.

Sometime in the mid 90s I was trail riding in the Moosehead Lake are of Maine when we came up on a granite obelisk about 6' tall. One side was US, the other was Canada. Since I circled the marker, I guess I technically crossed the border without intervention.

How deep can you go without someone noticing you, always thought those boarders where annoying though, better be online talking with someone in a different time area then your own, then flying and setting foot in soil.
