If Android Oreo was available...

I was wondering if any of you have updated to Oreo, and if so did it slow down your device at all? Because just in case my device ever gets it I want to be prepared and know if I should update, even if it does slow it down a little bit, I would probably still update because I've seen that Oreo is really cool.

I have a Moto X4 that updated to Oreo a few weeks ago and I haven't noticed any slowdown. Some menu items moved around a bit, but those changes made it easier IMO.

Ok thank you, I hope my tablet gets it eventually, but I don't think it will because it's Lenovo

But how does that give hope?
You raised concern that your tablet wouldn't get the update because it is made by Lenovo. My phone is also made by Lenovo, and it was updated, ergo, Lenovo has updated devices to Oreo. It doesn't mean all Lenovo will be updated, but some have. In the absense of them announcing they won't, there is still hope.

My HTC 10 got Oreo last week? A few days ago? Anywho...

I've only got one SIM card to share between 3 phones and that humungous Samsung Tablet I have.

I need to take that sim out of the LG G6 with a scratch on the screen, and put it in my HTC 10 with a crack before i can answer that. Meanwhile... Does your tablet need a SIM card to work?

There's really no general rule about whether an update will slow a device down. Over in another place I've seen one person who has updated their S8 to Oreo say that it is more responsive than with Nougat. I'm also sure that sooner or later we'll meet some device where at least some owners claim it makes it slower. In most cases my suspicion is that it depends more on how much effort the manufacturer puts in to tuning and optimising, especially if they modify the UI significantly, rather than the base OS update itself.

And of course individual devices may suffer a slowdown even if most do not, depending on their particular setup. In that case a backup and reset may fix it.

I'm running 8.1, but this phone came with 8.0 so that's only a minor update. My tablet and my previous phone didn't slow down with updates, but neither will ever get Oreo. I can ask my daughter whether Oreo makes much difference to her S8 when she gets the update. I don't think my wife will ever bother updating her HTC 10, so I'll probably never know there ;).

Well I'm just kind of worried because I have a Nexus 7 and just literally not too long after I got it (maybe a few weeks or months) it got lollipop and after a while it got slow as crap even though I only am using 5 GB out of 27 and a lot of other stuff I've said in other posts

Did you try a reset? That can sometimes help with problems after a major update.

I think there are other former N7 owners around here who would have experience of that update. My son used one (the 2013 model) for several years and applied all updates and never complained about it, so I don't think it was a universal problem with that update (he's an engineer, so the sort of person who would notice).

When I still used it I was going to try a factory reset but then decided not to because I had some apps I didn't what deleted or something and it didn't have a slot for an SD card or anything

When I searched if the Lenovo Tab 4 10 will get Oreo, on some forums people said they already have it, and that was in late 2017, so...

I much preferred Nougat on my S8+, but that's because I've had to stop using a certain app due to the way Oreo handles notifications and it's totally changed the way I use my phone.

Other than that, I've not really noticed much difference in performance or battery life so it's a really a bit of a "meh" upgrade for me.

It's device dependant obviously, but it wasn't worth it for me.

Do any tablets have Oreo? I've heard that only 1.1% of devices have it.

Pixel C does (unsurprisingly).

Apparently the Galaxy Tab S3 is scheduled to get it at some point, pretty sure it hasn't happened yet.

I can't find much reliable-looking information about Huawei or Lenovo tablets. Sony seem to have dropped their tablet line completely.

(And let's just not ask about Amazon tablets, eh?).

I hope Google makes more tablets again like they did with the Nexus line, I really like pure Android tablets... The Google pixel C looks cool, but it seems to cost a lot...

The Pixel C is also very old - in fact it's no longer available direct from Google (at least not here in the UK, where the Play Store no longer even has a "tablets" section under devices).

I don't know whether they will make more tablets. A product being popular doesn't necessarily mean they will continue it (Nexus 7 is an obvious example), and tablets generally are a declining market. But from the way Google have been going my guess is that if they do make another tablet it will be even more expensive...

The Nexus 7 got slow, I have it but don't use it anymore... It's pretty much unusable because of its lag issues. I like tablets, but I've never even had a phone, so I don't know if phones would be better, besides, they're really expensive... My parents seem to think even this Lenovo Tab 4 10 is expensive, it's like mid 100 dollars. I don't think I'll be getting a phone or tablet better than this anytime soon...
