Bought a USB c cable that doesn't quick charge

Yes, the power block I am using is aftermarket 2.1v and it does rapid charge with the six inch cable that the phone came with.
What should I look for when purchasing cables? I see one in Google that says
ZTE Z981 with USB Type-C Cable. The Dual Voltage 9V and 5V 2.1A

Just read the reviews and search for quick charge in the comments.
people will post the milliamps it does
It shouldn't hurt your phone. It just might be useless as a cable for charging.

Around two years ago there was quite a stir about a lot of bad USB Type-C cables but things have apparently settled down since then. Most of those bad cables have been cycled out of the market so it's something to be wary of but not too much.
