Help Can't log into banking apps (After Oreo Update)

I'm on Tmobile using Note 8.
After today's update to Android 8.0 I can't log into my banking apps using the fingerprint scanner unless I have some form of a screen lock activated.

Before this update I was logging on bank apps just fine with no screen lock at all.

Is this something new, and I have to choose screen lock OR fingerprint scanner, or is there a way to get around this?

How annoying.

Thanks

Biometrics
To improve your security, features that use biometrics (face, fingerprints, and irises) are only available when you use a secure screen lock type (pattern, PIN, or password). When you switch to a non-secure screen lock type (Swipe or None), biometric authentication is suspended for unlocking and for verification in apps like Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass. If you're using biometrics now without a secure screen lock type, you'll be able to continue after the upgrade, but changing to a secure screen lock type is recommended.

remember that screen that popped up to tell you that the update is ready? :p

the above link is the exact same info that was on that white pop up screen.

in short, yes you need to enable a code for better security.

it may be annoying but blame it on the cyber crimes that are becoming the new normal...

Yup. They sure do. We whine but we sure are glad they watch our backsides when the thieves attempt to strike. I am loving the latest feature for mobile banking that our bank calls Lockit. I now keep my accounts locked down tight unless I am at that very moment using them for a transaction. Even if I forgot and left my check card sitting on a restaurant table no one could use it before I noticed it was missing and either retrieved it or reported it. That is all part of the digital company watching out for my absentminded/easily distracted self.

Yes, some people are more easily distracted than others.
On top of that I don't need to ever worry about losing my phone since it pretty much stays in one place all day/week/month long. I pretty much never take it outside, and when I do not would be nice to be able to just turn this on.

So because of that I don't need all this security stuff.
But even then, it would be nice to be able to just turn it off or on and then I am responsible for whatever I decide.
But oh no...they know better than I do.

Oh brother, you definitely do. Whether you believe it or not, they are coming at you in every direction 24/7. Unfortunately a lot of people would turn it off because they find security a hassle and leave it off. Of course, once they were compromised, they cry bloody murder. Not saying that's you at all, but those people who keep default passwords or post their social security number on Facebook .... or trust Nigerian Princes ... they are why security is non-negotiable.

This is only for Samsung phones updated to 8.0 isn't it?

Because with my new Huawei Mate 10 that came with 8.0, I can do payments and financial transactions using only fingerprint phone unlock, however every 3 days this phone insists on PIN or pattern unlock.

I know that when I setup my fingerprint unlock on my G6 I had to have a pin or pass set first to verify the fingerprints. I don't need to enter the pin for banking, but I do have 2-step enabled. I don't think most banking/pay apps will work if the Phone is setup with only slide to unlock.

Actually most financial apps don't care how you lock/unlock your phone since they require a secure login to the app itself. You can't stay logged into the app and you can't bypass the login with just a swipe access. That's where they watch out for you.

All this whole thing has accomplished is making me use a very simple password for my banking apps.

I'm not going to lock the home screen
It's just not going to happen.

We'll see how this goes.

It's either simple password on all financial apps or I stop using them on the phone and use the computer for it.
