Help Galaxy Note 4 won't update...

Trying to update my stock Galaxy Note 4 from Android KitKat 4.4.4 to Android Lollipop 5.0, the phone will download the update, install it, then reboot.. and give me the following error message.

Try to Wipe Cache (via boot to rescue mode)
Then re-try the update

Power Off
Press and Hold: Power Button, Volume Up and Home
Release them when you see the Galaxy Note logo

It started installing, then the little green android bot looked like it fell over and said "Error", then I got the same error message as before. Not sure if it's even worth updating to Lollipop at this point, seems too complicated. :/

Typically it isn't supposed to be complicated, but when there's a problem then, well, there's a problem and you should at least try to clear up whatever is wrong. Even if you don't want to upgrade the operating system to a newer version, your phone will be more stable and usable running as it should, as opposed to when there's some glitch in the background.

If you go into your Settings >> More >> Storage menu, how much free space is available in the internal storage? The upgrade process might have failed because there isn't enough storage available.

Another thing to try is wiping the system cache partition. The system cache is unrelated to your stored data so you don't need to worry about this affecting any of your files and things. It also needs to done while your phone is running in its Recovery Mode -- power off your Note and then while simultaneously holding down the Volume Up, the Home, and Power buttons. Recovery Mode is a text-only interface so you need to use the indicated buttons to navigate through the various options. Select the 'wipe cache partition' option (this should only take a few seconds), and then just Reboot.

Wiping the system cache also involves just restarting your phone, something to do anyway when something like a system upgrade process fails.

If this OTA upgrade is still failing to install, you might also want to try upgrading your Note 4 using Samsung's 'Smart Switch' application. You need to install this on a computer, connect your Note to your computer, and then try to do the upgrade using Smart Switch.

There is over 20gb of space left!

Tried updating, it failed again. Wiped the casche, still gave me the same error.
 
Try factory restting the phone back up any contacts via Google Voice and try it again, if it persists then flash the updated firmware via Odin
 
Did you attempt to use Smart Switch also?
Since the OTA upgrade continues to fail, if you haven't tried Smart Switch try that. If that doesn't work out either, the last suggestion is to manually flash a stock ROM. You'll need to download and install the 'Odin' utility onto your computer, download a ROM specifically for your model and carrier, and using the Odin utility you'll flash the ROM onto your Note. Odin is a Windows application so if you don't have access to a Windows PC, there's an Open Source alternative similar to Odin called 'Heimdall', available for Linux, Mac, and Windows:

If you use Heimdall, it's a similar process but you do need to make allowances in accordance to whatever operating system is involved.

-- There are also installation instructions in the link above on what steps to take. The only thing I'd alter is to use an older version of Odin instead. The instructions refer to a newer version but Odin can have problems when it involves older systems, it's not very backwards compatible. Try using v. 3.10.7, the version specified to work with Lollipop. You can download if from here:

-- Smart Switch would have also installed the necessary Samsung driver for your Note to mount properly so you shouldn't need to install one. But be sure to go into the Windows Task Manager and quit the Smart Switch utility if it's still running in the background before using Odin. You want one or the other running, but not both at the same time.
-- It might help if you have 'USB debugging' enabled in the Developer Options on your Note beforehand.

You might also want to know that after this, another update callled marshmallow is available for the note 4
 
3 days ago my Note 4 was thrown into my pool by my little brother. Using a Galaxy S9 Plus now. I have my note 4 in a dry container of rice, which is where it will be staying for the next 3 weeks.
