App that will shutdown when above a specified temperature

Hello, I've got a phone that will overheat when I fall asleep on it. I've gone through two batteries because of this, and now I've had to buy my own replacement batteries. Is there an app that will automatically shut down the phone when the temperature rises above a specified level even when the phone is locked?

The phone itself should do that. Otherwise it will probably require root for an app to do it (certainly when I look at Tasker on this unrooted device all of the necessary options were unavailable, and the Play Store description of another likely app said that root would be needed shut down the device).

Putting the phone on a bedside table when you feel sleepy rather than falling asleep staring at the screen is probably the simplest fix, and actually better for you.

Welcome to Android it's doing exactly what it was designed to do but a quick fix is you can change your device screen time 2,5,10, 30 or never lock screen so your phone falls asleep or change the apps running in the background in the devices optimization settings. This stock feature grant's apps permission to run apps in conjunction with your device battery power usage. Now there are apps I use you can download from Google Play Store called WAVE. When this app is activated you will have to wave your hand over the ambient sensor to wake you device up, but it has different settings to suit the users need.

I don't have tasker, but I took a look at the website I think it's a bit above my skill level. In my searches I've found apps that say they will shut down or restart the phone at a specific time, and I've found apps that say they will either alert on an overheat or kill background tasks, but not one that will do both of those even if it requires root.

I agree it is better for most people, but I have difficulty getting to sleep and it's a bit outside the scope of this conversation but I take medication for it, and having the phone to read something boring helps me fall asleep

I took a look at that app, but I think you misunderstood my question. I'm looking for something that shut down my phone if it reaches a specific temperature when I'm not using it

I understood you clearly what you was asking but I was giving you some options to keep your phone from over heating so you wouldn't have to look for apps to turn your phone off. The reason why your phone is overheating is because there's apps running in the background and need to be shut down when you're not using them. I checked around but I can't find any apps that does that.

I think my phone is overheating because it doesn't have any ventilation. When I said fall asleep on it, I meant on it, like between me and the bed there isn't much ventilation, so I wake up laying on the phone and it's hot because I've been laying on it half the night

what is the name of the other app you found?

I looked at automateit, but that one said root needed. I didn't scan through other automation apps such as macrodroid or the venerable llama, but you might look at those too.

thanks, I'll try AutomateIt, or Llama. Google says Macrodroid is incompatible with my device :(

Or they can change their sleep habits.
I appreciate the time you have spent trying to solve my sleep habits, however I see a doctor for my sleeping issues. I'm looking for an app to shut down my phone when it overheats.

I have the same issue, and some different solutions to try.
1. The primary source of overheat when a phone is under me is long screen on.
2. Thus, it ought to help to just ensure there is a reasonable display timeout.
3. Except some apps, such as the game I play at the end of the day, are able to prevent sleep, and prevent display timeout.
4. FWIW my phone starts shutting apps down on serious overheat... But it waits too long....

I am a Tasker user, and will work out how to get this done. (my sense is I just need to kill a specific app on overheat)
