Battery Life Is Crap on Oreo

SMWAS

Newbie
Immediately upon getting the Oreo update a couple months back (Samsung Galaxy S8 on Verizon), my battery life went to crap. I talked to a couple other owners that same week who were experiencing the exact same thing. I kept hoping it would be fixed via a future update, but none of the subsequent updates have helped. Does anyone have any suggestions OTHER than a factory data reset? Also it would be impractical to run in safe mode and add in one app at a time as that would take a ridiculous amount of time.

If a factory data reset is the only option, what is lost if you backup and restore using Smart Switch? I had a Motorola prior to this, and their backup options were not good.

Thanks much in advance.

I should probably mention that with very moderate use, I go through over 10% per hour, so I am getting only between 9-10 hours at most. Maybe that is normal, but it was a lot better prior to the update.

What apps are using all this battery? Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Battery Usage

Sounds like a rogue app to me, perhaps one that doesn't work well with Oreo, not something about Oreo itself. (For example, my battery life is exactly as before Oreo.)

I think it's pretty good. One might even say compared to previous version's capacity, it's double stuff.

Interesting, I posted up the battery life after Oreo question on Facebook for my friends, 3 had the same problem as me, while 2 did not have any problems. So either something buggy happened during the update process (at least Samsung support says that is sometimes the problem) or, like you suggest, some app is the culprit.

OK, after almost 4 hours of battery time (with very little use), my phone is down to 67%. It shows Android OS 6%, Screen 5%, Android System 5%, Outlook (which I have to use as that is what my company makes us use) 4%, Phone Idle 2%, Google Play Services 1% and Cell Standby 1%.
