Samsung Black Screen of Death

Hey everyone!

Yesterday I was using my samsung galaxy s7 and it was working perfectly fine. Randomly, at around 4% battery (as I was going to plug it in), the screen went black but the phone still was working. I plugged it in and it stayed black. I got a phone call and could hear it but could not see it. The screen on my phone is uncracked and unscratched, and I have never dropped the phone in any major way.

I tried doing a reset (volume down + power button). I hold it down and the phone will vibrate once, then again, then again, until I let go. Then the phone will turn back on (blue led signalling it is loading back up) and the buttons on either side of the home button light up. The blue LED goes away, but the screen stays black. I have also tried holding (Power button + volume up), (home + volume up/down + power button), and (power button) on separate occasions and it did not work.

There were no issues, slowdowns, or damages in the near past that I can think of. Anyone had this problem and solved it?

Perhaps when the battery was in such a low charge state the screen was forced to go to sleep and something got messed up so it's not waking up properly. Try forcing it to power down, and then see if you can restart it normally:

What would be the best way to kill the battery? I can't do anything and nothing is turning on. I am completely lost. I called Verizon last night and followed with 3 people on the phone and they said they have never seen this before. Any other ideas?

The link I included in my previous reply had instructions. This is a partial quote:
"To force restart your device, press and hold the Volume down key and Power/Lock key on the device for 10–20 seconds. This performs a simulated battery disconnect."
