Rooting Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

Simple question. Is it worth rooting the S9+. I have heard that you loose more than you gain unless you are a developer. Some of the security is lost and of course the warranty is lost. Is it really worth it for the average android user?

I have rooted all three previous Android phones that I owned, and thoroughly enjoyed it. But the balance changed for me at this time with this device and I probably won't root for the following reasons:
  • 1 it is very difficult *
  • 2 the software available me once rooted is more limited *
  • * = compared to my last device, nexus 6
  • 3 I want to try out android pay
  • 4 the stock software is already pretty customizable and useful

Android Pay can be removed off your list since it works just fine with proper precautions/methods.. I pass SafetyNet without problems all day long

Not at all. An 'average' user is usually better off not having root privileges. Even a trained and experienced techie can inadvertently screw something up so when it comes to a casual user, root access allows one to do a lot of things, which includes hosing your operating system entirely, or worse bricking your phone.
That said, for dedicated hobbyists and above, if you're really motivated to do so, (if your model matches) here's an XDA Developers thread you might find worth reading through:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/how-to/guide-root-s9-oem-fix-t3763974

And within the last few days ,there are more non root customizations than ever: samsung came out with "good lock 2018" [sic]. Google it.

Depending on your particular variant of S9+, rooting may not even be an option yet. According to the xda thread linked below, no us s9 with snapdragon cpu has achieved root at this time. The root link directly above is s9 with an different cpu... exysnos (spelling?) which I think is sold in some places outside us.

FYI it's "E X Y N O S" Exynos. :thumbsupdroid:

And S9 with Exynos is sold just about everywhere outside of the US, except for China and Japan. It's mainly because Exynos doesn't support CDMA/EVDO. Exynos been Samsung's own processor developed in-house, rather than buying in Qualcomm.
