Battery percentage icon disappeared

My battery percentage icon has disappeared and been replaced with a battery icon with a plus on it. I've tried enabling always show battery percentage in notification but nothing seems to be working. Can anyone help me please?

Are you on 8.1 or the Android P preview?

Battery icon with a plus in it sounds like you've activated Battery Saver mode.

Thanks for replying. I'm on Android 8.1. My phone ran out of battery so I think it activated battery mode automatically and I can't reverse it! The phone us new to me and I'm still feeling my way round!

There is an option for battery percentage in 'Settings - Notification & Status bar'.

You should be able to disable battery saver simply by tapping the "battery" tile in the notification pulldown area - or via Settings > Battery > Battery saver.

(I don't know if that will help to restore the % display but it should at least get rid of the "+" indicator in the battery icon.)

Just tried it with my Pixel 2 (first time I've ever turned the battery saver on) and it had no effect on the percentage sign. I'm on DP4 so it's possible it's different.

Battery Saver is switched off. Still no percentage sign!

And still got a ghosted battery saver sign!

I'd make sure everything is backed up in case you need a reset to clear this.

So toggling the settings does nothing. I don't know the answer but this is the point at which I might consider clearing the cache for the Settings app, and possibly the SystemUI app as well. No idea whether it will help, but clearing caches should be safe.

Be right back, Ok on my friends Google pixel in Battery Settings in the upper right corner there is a box marked battery percentage. Try checking the box and un- check and see what happens?

Well I am completely mystified. I switched my phone off for some time while I installed a Whitestone dome screen protector. Just switched it back on and hey presto - my percentage sign is back! Now how did the that happen?

That's a quality screen protector. That's probably what fixed it. ;)
