SD card not showing in gallery

Hi, I am looking for a way I can get videos that are on my sd card into my gallery. I try moving them off the SD card but can only move them to internal storage. Which from there I am unable to view in gallery. Tia

Hi. Which phone do you have?

Samsung galaxy s8 plus

I've got the s8 so videos should definitely be in the gallery. There's a few tabs at the top so are you sure you're on the right one?

I don't think downloaded videos will show in the picture tab although recorded ones will. If you switch to the albums tab you should find downloaded ones there somewhere.

Recorded ones. I have a camera for my motorbike helmet so they are from that. I've checked all the tabs, all albums but can't seem to find anything

Could you use your file explorer and go to the dcim folder please and see if they're there? If they're there they really should be showing up in the gallery.

Yes they are showing up there which is why I am so confused lol. There's just no option to get then to the gallery

Hold up. Do you mean dcim in internal storage? Because there's nothing there but I can move them from the sd card into dcim but I have tried that before, moving them into an album but they never show up in that album when I go into the gallery

Honestly I'm a little confused myself. My camera saves to external sd so the videos are in the dcim folder on the external and they show in my gallery. I'd try clearing cache and data for gallery and give the phone a reboot. Other than that sorry I'm not sure.

So were they recorded through an app from the camera on your motorbike helmet? If so check the save location in the app settings and then if you find that folder in the albums tab in gallery I'd assume they should be there.

From a go pro style camera. Just recorded directly onto the sd card

So straight onto the sd and then put the sd into the phone after? Do they show up if you open the video player? Don't think the phone phone came with one pre installed but you can download Samsung video or other from the Samsung or playstore.

Yes, straight onto sd then sd straight into my phone. Downloaded the Samsung video player and nothing is showing up on that. Only videos I have recorded using my phone

I'm confused why they aren't showing as even if it's a dodgy format that doesn't play then it should still show and just not play. Could you create a new folder on the root of your internal storage and call it "a" so it shows up at the top and less searching, then move the videos there. Try pressing the albun tab at the top of Samsung video and see if they show up. If not try mx player as that's played a lot of things the Samsung one refuses to.

Sorry I'm out of ideas. If the phone recognises they're there to be able to move them I have no idea why they can't be picked up by media. Last thought, what happens if you try to play then from your file explorer?

Honestly the only reason I know of for videos that play from files but not showing in the video player is if they were in a folder with a file called .nomedia. I'd be surprised if that was the cause now though :)

Not ideal but how about a video editing app. If one of those picks them up then edit but don't edit and save them through that and maybe they'll show up
