battery icon on lock screen

I'd love to see how much battery I have left without having to turn the phone on.

Having said that, I don't want to root my Pixel 2 XL. I absolutely had to root my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge), but I'm enjoying the Pixel's speed, stability as is.

Is there any hope for me? Any at all?

I'm sure it's some apps in Google play store that does that.

For what it's worth, the current developer preview (DP4) of Android P includes a small battery indicator at the bottom of the Always-On Display / lock screen. I don't know for sure if that will be included in the release, but it seems possible.

Yeah, I did see that, hope it happens sooner than later, it is more elegant at the bottom, on its own, independent of however many notifications the phone may display at any given point in time, and would mean one less app to install.

Release is slated to arrive before the end of Q3... but I expect it before the end of next month based on previous years.
