where's my pics

i took a bunch of pics with my phone. of them(12 or so) there are only 4 backed up in my account. this never happened before as all the pics i took were always available in my account's "google photos".

are they on my phones internal drive somewhere? they should be right? they're not in internal storage\dcim\camera

Have you opened the Photos app on your phone? It only backs up when the app runs, and probably only when you are connected to WiFi at the time.

Otherwise, are the 4 that are backed up in your DCIM folder? Can you see them in your default gallery app? The pictures should all be in the same place. If not, the question is what happened after taking them? Or is there anything different about them (motion pictures, video,...?).

the four pics are viewable across all albums, the default android "gallery", google photos, on my phone and in the gmail apps on my desktop. i never changed settings. the 4 are in both internal and sd card dcim...but not the other missing pics
