S8 and Ford Sync

S8 user

Newbie
Anyone have any experience using the S8 with an older version(2012) Ford Sync? It seems to me that the amount you can do it quite lacking. Really all I can get it to do is take and answer calls. Or a generic text response. And nothing from ok google goes over the speakers. Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to do because the 2012 model Fords wasn't fitted with modern-day software, So you may have limitation issues from newer devices connected with that model year.

Being a Microsoft product, wasn't Sync really designed to work with Windows devices, and anything else it's good luck? Like you might only get very basic functionality and features?

I was under the impression that Ford Sync was originally an AAPL thing.. It worked flawless with those iPhones, dude wouldn't let anyone connect an Android yo it, Lol

The old BlackBerry had the BlackBerry assistant. When it was hooked to the bluetooth in the truck I could just push the steering wheel button and say call BlackBerry assistant. Once there I could ask it to read last message or send text or send bbm. It would type just what I said then ask if I want to send. It was convenient as I never had to touch the phone while driving. Also anything said was put over the speakers so I could hear it very well and know if the message was right.
Could even read emails. Was wondering if this is possible with the S8. There must be a way..or an app that would do this.

I have a 2015. It is about the same. It will read a message to me, but it is unintelligible. I also have a 2018, and it is about the same. Only real difference is the 2018 can use Android Auto.

Its sad that this cant be done easily. Given the phone. With the old phone took a few steps to get there but did everything easily. There has to be some sort of app that makes this work.

I'm sure a third-party would need to do it, if that's possible. I don't think Microsoft would be interested, as they discontinued Sync and their partnership with Ford in 2014 I believe. They no longer support Windows Phone either now.

Android devices now are intended to work with Android Auto. Ultimately you may need to buy a new up-to-date head-unit for the car, that's Android Auto compatible.
