I don't think you can. Buy a Samsung, you must use their Bixby AFAIK.

You’ll need to root and tinker with the software. Out of the box you are not able to set that button up to activate another app.

Oh well. Also noticed that the Google Launcher doesn't work on the Note 9 yet.

Yes, the Bixby button can be remapped to Google Assistant or even disabled using the free app BX Actions. I originally created a thread on this, but it was moved into the Tips thread, here is a link to where the post is: https://androidforums.com/posts/7797321
I recommend going the beta, the app has a few more features in beta. While it's not a 100% perfect solution, it works great 99% of the time

it can't be mapped out of the box, which was my point, but there are 3rd party alternatives, sure (root, 3rd party apps).
on the note 8 samsung gave its users the ability to deactivate the button all together , which was fine by many.

I finally enabled the advanced features ( you have to enable usb debugging and then run a small code), you'll need adb, but that's easy enough. Bixby is completely disabled and there is no lag from the Bixby button. I switched to Google Assistant and now I see nothing from Bixby. This app is amazing.
