Help Middle of Screen is not working

Isaiah Ojo

Lurker
The first screenshot is an example of what i noticed happen to my phone. I didn't even realize that the center of my screen was gone. It is not touch responsive anymore. Then just recently i ran another test and found out the area of the screen that is not touch responsive has increased and i am worried that the entire front screen may be unresponsive. Does anyone have a solution and what actually caused this problem. So other people who experience the same thing can learn a thing or two.

ps. I have to use a mouse on the go adapter to unlock my phone.

Did the phone get wet? or was it dropped? It looks like either something is shorted or a connection broke inside. If you're lucky it's just a ribbon cable that came loose. It could also be a failed display assembly. I don't think you can repair the Samsung "edge" screen components independently. :(

If it's still under warranty, I'd send it in for repair or replacement.

(Do I need to say "backup first? ;) )

Edit: Ninja'd by Mike. :p

That almost certainly is a touch digitizer failure, i.e. it''s a hardware problem. Solution would be to replace it. As to cause, has the phone been dropped or subject to other stress, or it could be it's just gone faulty.
It has been dropped a few times but there are not any serious cracks on the areas of the screen that the touch screen is not working

If the connection was marginal to begin with, then it wouldn't take much to dislodge a connector. And it wouldn't necessarily have to be in the same area of the problem.

I've had this same issue, after receiving the s8+ from a friend, I noticed the middle didn't work, I use a USB mouse over OTG connections, it solves the problem somewhat, but as to the screens, it's a digitizer problem. Something shifted or got cracked and pressured the wrong way, causing the digitizer to crack and thus go out of whack. As for no touch zone, my touch is split in two wherever the 'blank space' (for lack of a better term) is on the screen. Right now I don't have the $300 to fix my screen, so as I said, I've been using a USB mouse over it connections rq hen I need access to the 'blank space'

This is a common problem since the PDA era, but I didn't expect it on a Samsung. They used to make the best quality screens.

The devices are stuck in pockets, dropped and stressed in many ways. It could be damage rather than a manufacturing defect - though all manufacturers have those too.
