Wish I won the billion...

That's the nicest thing I've heard in a long time.

Nice pay day wasn't it? $1.6bn. Even with the tax at $500m, they are still a billionaire.
You had that backwards. After taxes (for me in Massachusetts) the estimate was I would pocket $550million. I PROBABLY could have found a way to retire on that, but alas, fate did not line up for my social experiment. :(

Anyway, I'd spread the wealth a little bit among family and close friends, get anonymous real quick, and find something I enjoy to occupy my time.

actually... cash option has it down to 1.09 billion. then pay tax.
so.. 700 million.

still that is a lot.

but .. one advice...
collect the winnings in a TRUST. so you can hide your ID.

I figured with that much money on the line and that many people playing, my chances of winning were very close to the same if I played or didn't play. I saved my money so I'm a winner. Besides, what does one do with that sort of jack? Even if you only cleared five hundred million and blew a thousand dollars a day, it would take you 1,370 years to toss away that sort of money.

I've often wondered what the uber rich do with their money. I reckon they mainly just stock pile it somewhere, after buying their super yachts.

Seriously, the poor guy in this world has no idea what to do with crazy money. Help the kids retire without any sort of satisfaction of achievement I suppose. But beyond that... there is a limit to how much jack a person needs. I could upgrade my home I suppose.. something super nice... OH man, there with a million.. sheesh. A new car... nice clothes... vacations around the world....

I can see spending some and enjoying it. But 500 million, I can't see that big.

My opinion on winning the lottery is the same as my opinion on retirement. I won't stop working when I "retire," but I won't have to work so that whole part of the pressure will be gone, and anything I earn will be for fun stuff outside of the living budget like spoiling any future grandkids or buying toys (i.e. tractors, boats, snowmobiles, etc.).

the chances of winning.. does not change..

with more players... the chance of multiple winners goes up.

------------

with that much .. more than i and my family can use...

i would like to start a foundation.. to help my kids..
raise education level in 3rd world countries.
and work towards reduce fossil fuels.. but promoting alternative technologies.

Well as I'm not considered as one of the bottom feeders at this point in my life, the mediocre knowledge I have about stocks and hedge funds, I can honestly say that I'm doing pretty well with what I got when I started with little less than $40k. Now it's grown to a generous sum in the upper six figures. Mind you this has accumulated in over a 20-year time span. So for me personally getting a hold of a billion dollars, I can honestly say I pretty much know how to handle it if I ever got it. But unfortunately most people that never had money will probably lose it within 5 years or less because they don't know what to do with large sums of money after they have gotten it.

I know fair well I don't need a billion. Honestly if I'd won that I'd be dishonesty and say it was a syndicate with my family. Saves paying tax on my gift to them. I don't want to be greedy though, come on life just give me a million. I know there's people more deserving than me but I kinda feel like I deserve a break. Survived cancer just to work myself into an early grave lol. I've got it all planned. Buy three houses and rent the other two out. If I manage to blow what's left over at least I'd be earning about my months wages. With no rent or mortgage to pay I could live a happy life.
