Can't control volume

I just recently purchased my Moto E5 about 2 weeks ago and the volume keeps turning itself up. I turn it down and seconds later it turns itself up again. What can I do?

Similarly, I get the "up/down" volume behavior for each and every SMS message I receive as I listen to music. How do I turn that behavior off?

Just offhand, do you keep your E5 in a case? Check that the phone hasn't shifted out of place, maybe the Volume Up button is inadvertently getting pushed down.
