Battery isscue

Have a zmax pro 2 months short of 2 years old, last couple weeks when battery level get to about 40% it will drop to 0 and shut down, I did a factory reset did not solve the problem, any ideas ?

Try to recalibrate the battery, if the battery is still good it would perform normally. Otherwise you'll have to replace the battery.

Charge it completely unplug it and wait until it drops a few percentage charge plug it back in repeat until it takes longer to go down in percent than it did before. Dont plug the phone back in at all until you discharge the battery to the point the phone shows no signs of life when you try and power it on or hold the power button. charge it again and use like normal. ive heard/read this is to be done a variety of elaborate ways but ultimately i just think that android averages or w/e battery stats over time to guess more or less the batteries effective capacity so really just have to give it a good clear reading of un-interrupted charge time to un-interrupted discharge time. if it dosnt improve after a few charge cycles then yea sounds more like a bum battery. may very well be wrong tho no expert just been using android a good while.

I was searching for this battery issue with my ZTE ZMAX Pro and found this post. My battery would last until about 70%, then shutdown. I reset my phone, but this didn't fix the problem. I ordered a new battery, but tried the recalibration . That didn't work. I received and replaced the battery last night. It took about 45 minutes. This fixed the issue. It feels like a new phone. I had to fully charge the new battery, but I put it on battery saver overnight at around 85-90% and it was on 85% the next morning. I bought the battery for about $9.50 shipped (https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/392089199999). I bought this iFixit kit from Fry's for about $12.50+tax on sale last weekend. https://www.frys.com/search?search_...string=Ifixit+essential&nearbyStoreName=false - It's not on sale now, so you may be able to find it less elsewhere. I followed the battery replacement instructions on iFixit's site for the ZTE ZMAX Pro. I hope this helps your situation.

Generally speaking, a healthy battery shouldn't lost more than 1% after a restart (from 100% battery). If the battery drops from 100% to anywhere less than 99% the battery might be a little weak.

If you have a lot of apps or background services, the battery may lose up to 2% but it's very rare. Most of my new phones loses 0% after restarting.

This is normally true with a good battery. With my old battery, I would restart my phone from 100%, then lose about 20% after Android start completion. Using the phone right after factory resetting the phone had the same results. I always would expect a worn battery to drain from 100% to 0% quickly instead of 100% to 70% then shutdown. I'm glad I now know the solution.

You can always replace the old battery. I've done it once every since I've got the phone. And it's fairly simple to do so.
