I have been, and like Mistermixelpix said, it ain't out there, yet you keep talking like it is.... which leads me to believe, you haven't seen anything either but have no problem believing other people's speculation and hearsay and try to pass it on yourself, as fact.

hint - 69Droid420 is not a reliable source..... chances are, your source is nothing more than a 16 y.o. kid who's mommy bought him the droid in the first place.

So, until a reliable source like CNN.business, NYTimes, Cnet, something, has some story about a huge bill, or you can find someone who has scanned their bill that proves your side, you are simply lieing everytime you say

You assume too much. if I'm a teen, michael jackson was black before he died. And id be a quite accomplished teen too. Hell I wish I had the job/stuff/education/ I have now when I was a teen. You know, A+ certification, bachelors in lib arts, and a hand in a multimillion dollar a year family business. Oh yeah, a beautiful fiance ^.^, a house(financed of course).


But yeah, read your contract, and I'll offer an olive branch. Try looking up a vzw class action lawsuit the new england area.

But man, seriously dude, quit giving unethical, and tos breaking advice. What you do is your problem. But don't bring people down with you. I'm pretty sure lawyers who make contracts, and people that actually understand what the contract says, are a lot more reliable than your "source" who may be just a glorified sprint rep.

A class action lawsuit has been filed this week to recoup what a law firm has called “improper data charges” for Verizon Wireless customers who discovered $1.99 fees on their phone bills for “data charges” many customers claim they never used.

Goldman Scarlato & Karon, P.C., a law firm with offices in Cleveland, OH and Conshohocken, PA, filed the suit against the wireless giant in federal court in New Jersey.

The lawsuit alleges non-smartphone customers frequently incurred “data fees” on their monthly Verizon Wireless bills.

Stop the Cap! reported on this in 2009, and believes most of the charges appeared after consumers accidentally triggered their phone’s built-in mobile web browser. Although Verizon Wireless claims it does not charge for accidental access, customers report otherwise. Many have fought to have data access blocked to prevent future charges. The fees potentially impacted any account that does not have a monthly data plan. Verizon Wireless offers a pay-per-access plan starting at $1.99 for non-data customers.

The lawsuit seeks to reimburse customers should the charges be deemed improper.

The law firm is looking for those charged for data services that believe they were billed incorrectly. Customers can e-mail the firm at info@gsk-law.com or call attorney Daniel Karon at (216) 622-xxxx.

just as I thought, has nothing to do with tethering a droid, it has to do with other phones, without data plans, accessing data accidentally by starting their phone's browser. No wonder you were so hesitant to post "your proof" since it really isn't.

If that is your proof that verizon is going after tethering Droids, then I bet your fiance' ain't that pretty either. lol but feel free to post pics to prove otherwise.
 
IOWA, no one gives a fig about your age, fiancee, or income. All we're asking is a SHRED of evidence that ANYONE has been hammered for tethering an Android phone on Verizon. We've read the contract, looked up the CAL's, and searched endlessly for news stories but can't find a thing. Help us out, man. That's all we're asking for, here. For you to back up your rather incredible (haw) claims.

This isn't an attack. If it's happened, I want to see it because this is kinda important, LOL.
 
Ok guys, I called verizon. Here was their response:

Verizon does not have a 5gb cap on smartphone data plans. It does; however have a cap on tethering plans and Wireless Modem plans… but not on smartphone data plans.
Just be aware though, using over 5gb on a regular basis will raise flags, and if they find that you’ve been using the phone outside of the allowed services you can expect an audit of your account. IE: Tethering through third party software.

Part of the problem with this issue is too many people relying on he said/she said stuff but noone has actually heard of anything happening to a DROID that tethers. I'm not concerned with an E815 5 years ago. I'm on a droid site, give me droid info.

Tethering is not specific to droids... and droids are not exempt from the ToS.

All the verification you need is one phone call away.

but teathering when no plan is available to tether (like on a blackberry) is..... hence, why it's important to find some stuff concerning DROID specific issues, since DROID has some unique abilities compared to the BB.

The confusion lies in the fact that Verizon doesn't 'officially' recognize the fact that we can tether.... I can promise I will NEVER exceed the 5gb tethering limit on my tethering plan (Because I don't have one) The BB does, other smart phones do, Droid does not.
 
Did a little more digging to make you guys happy. Tough crowd.

So basically, here's how it breaks down, and i *think* all the carriers are like this.

On your phone, you can eat all the data you like. It is unlimited. With exceptions.

One of those exceptions is tethering, whether you pay for it or not.

Now if you stay under the 5GB soft cap your fine. Not even on the radar. Over that limit, consistently, they will audit your account. They can easily tell if you tethered or not. Pretty simple stuff really. Now due to recent court rulings, they can't charge you overages, although VZW can, as they changed their advertising. What they can do, however is kill all your lines associated with that account, AND charge you the massive $350/$200 etf (depending on your phones) PER line. That adds up boys and girls. And your lines get shut off too. So in conclusion, it's a bad idea, and with more and more people getting smart phones, they will begin to enforce it more aggressively.

It's happened before. Just not a common thing at this point. Tethering to xbox live would definitely get their attention though. Do you know how much data xbox live pulls?

Not to mention it'd just be stupid, as others have said above. Tethering via EasyTether or PDANet is a good idea for on vacations or general "around town" browsing, but a 3G network just plain ain't solid enough to do something as intense as XBL gaming.

That was the very first thing that came to my mind when I read what he was doing. I get annoyed enough just using my wireless adapter, I could not even begin to imagine how pissed off I would be getting on Live through my Eris.
 
Okay so using 3g won't work too well...but how about using wifi instead? My wireless adapter just crapped out and I have no means to connect to xbox live. Would using my phone's wifi capabilities work?

he's wondering instead of wired tethering directly to the XBL, if you could wirelessly tether. And would that be any different.

I would think it's the same thing..... 3g wired = 3g wireless

you could do it, but what's the difference?

The only reason I teather using wires is because it charges the phone while I stream my netflix, download songs illegally, and overall, ruin it for others..... (j/k IOWA) lol
 
I think he means what about using the phone as a WiFi connection from your home network and then bridging that to the Xbox. I'd imagine that would work just fine, actually.
