Pop up message feature?

I just came from a Note 4 that had a app side bar. I now have a Note 9 with an edge panel. What I miss about the note 4 that I have not figured out how to do with my new note 9 is to answer text with a pop up message box. I use to watch games on my old note 4 in full screen and my wife would text me. All I use to do was to hold the right button at the bottom and my app side bar use to pop up and I would select my Verizon message+ text app and a small movable and resizable box pop up with the option to type back or turn it into a small bubble or close it out without stopping my game playing. How do I get my note 9 to do something simular?

Tap and hold the recent apps icon at the bottom. You can merge two apps together so one is on top and the other is on the bottom —both on the screen at the same time.
I use textra and this box pops up like you mention , i read /reply/whatever and close it (or it closes itself after sending which i set it up that way)

Thank you, that slipoed my mind about the split screen, not what I like, so I went with textraand it seems very nice
