Getting images from Pixel 2 keyboard to apps

Maybe this is the keyboard I am using or the app. On my pixel 2(Android version 9) and since I can remember, I don't see an option to let me attach a photo from my files. I can only choose the most recent photos. I was wondering if there is a way to select like 'image' and be able to pull up all my photos and scroll through them nicely let's say for a Facebook comment or along those lines. Do I need to install anew keyboard?

I've never heard of using the keyboard itself to attach photos to apps. It's usually the app itself like Facebook, Instagram, or WeChat that handles that, irrespective of whatever input method is used.

I think certain keyboards can do animated gifs in a similar way they do emoji, although I've never used one myself, is that what you mean?

I know on like Iphones or my other LG phone I was able to go straight to my photos from my keyboard, properly select which photo I want where they are all layed out by album or whatever.when I try to attach a photo on the pixel, it just brings me a list of all the recent photos on my phone whether from WhatsApp or whatever

I don't know iPhones or LGs, but on my Huawei and Samsung phones, there is no select photo on the keyboard itself, there's gifs and stickers though. And to post a photo to say Facebook, it's definitely the app itself. with the "Photos/Video" button...and that browses the files. I guess the stock Pixel keyboard just may not do it, but I've never seen any keyboard myself that can attach photos, and I've always attached photos using the app itself.

Pixel uses Google's own Gboard by default? Is that what you're using.

Yes, the Pixel uses Gboard by default.
Like the others, I've never seen a photo selector as part of the keyboard on any phone or using any keyboard app (actually I've never seen it on an iPhone either, but I don't use those often and have never tried attaching pictures to anything using one of those). The picture selector within the app will give slightly different options depending on whether it uses one from the app itself or one of your gallery apps.

Thanks for the replies, I'm using the stock GBoard the pixel 2 comes with. I guess I'll try digging around. Maybe it is just the app.

Gboard is able to directly attach stickers and GIFs from the internet into any apps which support images in posts/replies. GIFs which you've sent recently are accessible without having to search for them again, but Gboard makes no provision for browsing/attaching images from your own photo collection.
