Running background apps.....

Is there a way how to turn off them and not show it on the pull down, like take it away for keeps..

Noticed my walkdroid kick it around, when I pressed and done the entire settings thing, it saids its off..

Same here! Why on earth is there no [apparent] way to lose the damn thing?!
Although I found a Yee launcher, that hides most, but it shows one of my older apps still clinging onto that.

Soon one day the pones will get this right, and automatically shuts off all notifcations altogether.

Notifications, in general, don't bother me--because I can choose what or if I want to see them. But this thing only gives you the option to snooze it. I don't want to snooze it, I want it GONE!

I wonder whose brilliant idea it was to make it work this way...

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was Motorala's fix to the complaints of no notifications on time when doze was introduced.

AFAK it's like a power management mode in which non essential apps are forced to stop running.
Could that be the culprit, I wonder? I recently posted that apps I WANT to stay in my 'recents' list are disappearing--but they're not actually closing. When I relaunch them from the app drawer, they're right where I left them. For example, if I stopped typing right now and left my phone untouched for X amount of time, this app (Chrome) would not be in my 'recents'--but upon relaunching, I'd be right back here where I left off in this tab, as well as all its other tabs.

Can you repost your phone's specs?

Sure. What specs, exactly? It's a brand-new Moto Z² Force Edition, upgraded to Oreo, if that helps.

This problem is REALLY a big deal for me. For example, I want the ADT Pulse app to ALWAYS be instantly available--as it was on my Moto X 2nd Generation. I DON'T want to be fumbling in the middle of the night, with my glasses off, flipping through the app drawer looking for it when the alarm goes off, you know? Of course I could put its icon on one of my desktops, but I don't do that--I like my desktops clear of anything but my beautiful AniPet Koi live wallpaper:

You have the 6GB RAM version, right?

If so, it's pretty similar to my Oppo R15 except the battery capacity (Oppo throws a 3400mAh battery in it).

I never encountered the problem that you described. With plenty of RAM there is no reason to force-close apps that are running.

Maybe you should try another launcher or tweak some settings in the Developer menu.

I don't recall any choice when I ordered it [directly from Motorola], and have the 4GB version, with 64GB storage; here are its full specs. (I don't know why, but when I follow that link, it's not going to its specs page as it should; scroll down and you'll see a 'specifications >' button to get you there.)

Neither did I--with my FOUR-year-old Moto X 2nd Gen! This is really getting to me, as apps are closing...not closing...very quickly. Please keep in mind what I've said about them disappearing from recents, but NOT actually closing.

I gave its default launcher a try when I first got it, and this was happening then, too. Then I installed the launcher I've used for years, the paid version of ADW Launcher EX, and it continued. I even gave Nova, whose features pale in comparison to ADW, a try, with the same results.

I can have 4 or 5 apps open, and 1 or 2 of them do the limbo-disappearing act; meanwhile, on my old phone--which I'm still using--I'll have 10 or 15 apps open and they stay in recents, where I want them. I'm stumped.

Can't find the specs page on the link you posted using my phone, but Gsmarena says 6GB.

Even with 4GB of RAM you shouldn't have this issue.

I went through its "Inactive apps" list and toggled to 'active' the apps I want to keep open. Don't know yet if it'll help!
Last night I REALLY thought we were on to something: I had 12 or 13 apps open and they STAYED in my recents list for hours. Yay!, I thought, we've found it! :)

I was wrong. :( This morning all but four apps were in that limbo/disappearing place they go, not listed in recents but not closed, either. Ugh...
