WiFi calling

EE told me I had to get my Note8 from them so it came with WiFi calling as my home is the only place I don't get EE signal.
I am looking to buy the S10 plus when it's out, do I have to get my phone on contract through EE or can I buy it anywhere and still use EE?

You can buy it from anywhere and use it on EE... BUT

if you want wifi calling its got to be an EE branded version.

It is free... as long as you use the EE branded device... they have stuff baked into their firmware, so unless its on your device you can't use wifi calling...

... you can use whatsapp, skype, line, voip apps etc... but not native wifi calling

You must be on an EE monthly plan but WiFi calling will work on a device bought from another retailer provided that it is in EE's list of compatible devices or you have confirmed that it does support WiFi calling. I have WiFi calling on my HTC 10 bought through Amazon.

"Anyone on an EE pay monthly plan with a compatible phone. Sorry, it’s not available on pay as you go yet.

You’ll need a compatible EE phone bought directly from us – in an EE store, online, or over the phone.

The following devices bought from other retailers should support WiFi Calling:*"

"* please check when buying a phone from a non-EE retailer whether or not it supports WiFi Calling, as we cannot guarantee phones purchased from third parties will support the feature."

Not so, my Note 8 is sim free, I have BT mobile in the UK and I can make WiFi calls. BT owns the stupidly named EE.
