Love Mei

After the boss lady told me that she had ordered me a new phone, I figured I had better get busy. I won't use a smartphone without a protective case, and the OtterBox Defender has always been my case of choice.

It's been a while since I bought one and was a bit aggregated that they removed the screen protector. Did some checking on alternative cases and found the Love Mei "Powerful" series.

Amazon had my case, to me, the same day my V40 was delivered.
My V40 spent less than 5 minutes, in my hands, before it was safely in the case.

It's a BIG/HEAVY case, but I couldn't be happier.

I've never used a case with an attached screen protector. I've always used a glass protector. How do they compare?

IDK.
I'm liking the aluminum alloy case on mine. Under $25.00, on Amazon.

Saw a video of some guy that seemed to be bragging about cracking the screen protector, on the Love Mei. Saw where he used an axe to do it. My general opinion, on cases, that their intended purpose is sacrificial, in nature, to protect the phone.

OtterBox had had a plastic protector and I never had issues with any of them. My last one lasted nearly 4 years and was used on both of my S5s.
The Love Mei screen protector is glass.
They bill it as,depending on where you look as either Gorilla glass or toughened glass, with 9x hardness.
I was worried about it, but they've been unfounded. Responsiveness has been great.

I completely agree with sacrificing the case to save the phone. Do you know the name of your case? It sounds like the one I'm looking for.

Personally, if OtterBox had kept the screen protector, I would have never looked for another. I always took them to an extra level. I removed the belt clip from the holster and kept the rest of it as a 360° shield. Check the OtterBox page and see how many complain about no protector.
But at $25.00, I can buy 2 of the Love Mei cases, for the price of an OtterBox.

I had used Seidio over Otterbox because I didn't like the attached screen cover. Is the Love Mei Glass protector attached to the case or do you apply it separately? I can't imagine getting a dust free installation if it is attached.

If you see pictures on the internet, it can be confusing, but they are attached to the front cover.
IMO the fit is much better than OtterBox was. On my S5s, I seldom needed to remove the case, for cleaning. Every one is different, though. So depending on how you treat them they may need more frequent cleaning. Can already say that the Love Mei does better at keeping water from between the screen and protector.

Then I would guess the screen protector of the Love Mei isn't like the ones you purchase separately. Those have a layer that is attracted to the glass of the phone and forms a temporary, but strong bond. If the phone's screen isn't perfectly clean, it traps dust particles that are impossible to remove. Does the Love Mei protector just rest against the phone's screen?

I wound up buying a Spigen Tough Armor case. It provides lots of protection and allows all the cords to be plugged in. It is a perfect fit and it covers all the buttons. Unfortunately, the volume and power button covers are smooth with the shell and difficult to feel. It also completely covers the phone's case so you can't see any of it. I just ordered a Ringke [Fusion-X] case that has passed a military drop test. It had a good write up, so I'll try it.

Another reason I got mine in black.
The boss lady just KNEW that I was gonna cover mine up.

Ringke has 2 cases that are clear. They both have good write ups. However, most of the clear cases that I checked have some reports of fuzzy photos. The cases that are clear around the cameras have people reporting fuzzy pictures when using flash. The reports are definitely a minority, put there may be something to it. Or they may have put the cases on wrong. Who knows?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I bought the case with a dark ring around the cameras and the entire case. (No reports with this one) We'll all know in a few days.

I got the Ringke case on Friday and installed it that day. I like the case more than the Spigen Tough Armor. The buttons are easier to feel and press. I can see the color through the clear back and no problems with flash photos getting fuzzy. What's interesting is that the Ringke company must have seen the reviews about rainbows forming in the back of clear cases. They included a sheet of clear adhesive plastic with the case. It's similar to a screen protector but it goes on the back of the phone. I haven't seen a rainbow with it, but I didn't put the case on without it. There is one very slight issue that has to due with there fabrication process. Their moldings are exact, that the corners are sharp. Not enough to cut you, but if you have a death grip, it can be uncomfortable. A little sand paper or Dremel and problem solved.

Saw a couple reviewers, of Ringke, on the internet. One, mentioned having on on his V40. He had good impressions.

I'm hoping that some more cases for the V40 will come out soon.

I really like mine. I had never heard of Ringke before I got the LG V40. I had used Seidio, Case-mate, Spigen and some no name cases just for the bling. Unfortunately, as time goes on, most case companies seem to be focusing on
I-Phones. I thought it was just with HTC phones because the company was going down the drain. I was really surprised when I went looking for a case for this phone. I felt lucky to find a decent company that one model, let alone a choice. I had settled on cases that had good drop protection, but still let the beauty of the phone show thru. That's why I'll stay with Ringke unless new ones come out.

Yep, seems like a cult following of apple. I'm sure it's easier, on manufacturing, to make cases for a single company.

Dozens of companies that make Android, each making several new phones a year, it does make sense for the case company.

My wife has had good use out of $5.00 cases, for her phones, though she's using an OtterBox Symmetry on her Pixel2. Me, I've always trusted OtterBox until now. It's good to know that there are good and sturdy cases being made for the V40.
