Lenovo K30-W running 4.4.4

Hi,

I have an old Lenovo K30-W mobile which is running android 4.4.4 but I am unable to update the OS to a later version.
Needs to be v5 at least so as to run my Google Home MIni & Chromecast.

Google Assistant is not compatible with v4.4.4, so I am hoping that v5 is compatible (Google say it is).

So what I would like to do is:

I would like to find out how to replace v4.4.4 with v5 or later.
I understand that you may need to root the device and as such KingoRoot was suggested, also TWRP needs downloading to 'Flash'!!!

Then I guess I need to download the later android version?

I have no knowledge what-so-ever on what to do or how to do it (If do-able?)

Could someone please talk me through it a non-technical (Step by step) method.

To wipe & rebuild a Windows PC is easy, I am not sure why Android is so difficult & confusing.

Many thanks for any help that you can offer,
Indy

Nope.
You'll end up with a nice paperweight if you go that route.
The only way to update to a higher OS is to first find a rom (OS image file) specifically for your device, if you try to use anything else you will brick it.
Maybe someone here will be able to assist you further....

Here is a rom for your phone to update it to android 5.1.1.
http://en.miui.com/thread-303984-1-1.html

You will need to search for a root method and twrp or clockworkmod recovery to flash the rom to your phone.

Summary:
1. root phone
2. install a recovery like twrp or clockworkmod
3. flash the rom with the recovery

Yeah at least I know what an image file is ... thanks.

What I may end up doing is buying a small inexpensive tablet with an updated android os such as a Huawei MediaPad T3 7 or 8, or a Lenovo Tab E7

If anyone has any suggestions on a cheap but decent tablet similar to the above please let me know.

Cheers,
Indy

I think this is the best solution.

I have a couple of old devices running 4.4 and 5.0, while they still work well the most useful thing you could do is to watch YouTube (although not with its latest version).
