Sound volume

I posted before about a problem I was having with an app and the volume settings. Well I just discovered something strange. (At least for me) The sliders that determine the volume for different sounds change with the app you're using. In "Settings", where all soundsvolumes should be listed, there are 4 different sound volumes. They are: Ringtone, Notification Sound, Touch feedback & system and finally Music, videos, games & other media. When using my doorbell camera, I pressed a volume button and got a volume slider labeled "Call". I got the same slider when making a phone call. When using Netflix, 2 new sliders appear, both labeled "Netflix". And I can't get the app I use to lock my volumes to correspond with these different sliders. I'm confused for now.

Like I said, elsewhere, we're still tweaking this phone out.

Don't use Netflix, but when I'm on a call and adjust the volume, the ringtone slider moves.

IDK.

There are lots of apps with that name, unless you mean it generically. I use a multifunctional sound app called Sound Profile Pro. It has the usual 6 volume sliders among other settings. The problem is that the LG V40 has 4 main volume sliders that don't completely coincide with volume apps that have 6. Then it adds these additional sliders that aren't listed in the settings that come & go. It will take trial & error to figure out which sliders on the LG V40 correspond to normal sliders in add-on apps.

I'm going to have to try the netflix one but I wonder if that's internal to the APP.

ON the android side of things - or I guess I'll say Hardware/LG/Android side of things it's like this. The system presents 3 main audio outputs with their own independent volume controls including mute and vibrate.

Call: As you'd expect since your device is a phone or so they claim - this is nominally your Ringer volume. and it's presented to other app development as one of the choices for notifications. NOTE - your ring camera app chose this because it acts like a phone call as you can talk back to your camera. It's also the most likely to be turned on and up.

Notifications: Separated from call since again phone call vs other - it's a different dynamic in that it is one - can be muted - and meant for short burst tones - but it's presented to apps separately now so they can have distinct tones separate from rings - and so that it can be called on to punch over existing audio (like when you get a main bingbong while listening on headphones to your hardcore gangsta rap). Or you get those beeps when you get an text while you're on the phone.

Media: This is everything else - the main purpose of the V40. Spotify, google music, netflix anything that is going to play output comes though this - and depending on if it goes through the headphone side or the speaker - it's a seperate again audio output. This is where the HiFI DAC is wired though and where the system equalizer comes into play etc etc. But more importantly this has the most options on output so it's possible other apps are able to have their own output tailoring. For example - Jet Audio (and other players) run their own mixer, equalizer, and volume processing infront of the Hardware - in the OS prior to it getting to the hardware volume, mixer and equalizer. It's for this reason that on the V20 and now my V40 I turn those pieces off when I use it.

Vibrations and feedback: not really audio at all - this is the vibrator strength. basically.

Now If this gets posted to another forum or other places on this site - for the developers out there before you even start, yes this is meant as a very simplified view of how the system works. K thanks.

V40 hardware specifics - one difference between the V40 (and this applies to a few other mobiles to) is the use of a seperated audio section that has it's own processing. That's the equalizer you see in the settings that's greyed out if you don't have something plugged in - that circuit isn't activated until it is plugged in. The V20 was much more noticeable but I think again the software had to catch up. Other mobiles have a seperte audio section too - but it's not quite the process detail and capability as the V series. ONe thing to realize - some of that system is for the video recording with surround sound processing and clarity. SO it goes both ways, fyi.

OK so I don't know if there is a specific app you are using.

BUT when I played netflix just a moment ago - I get only the Media volume choice when media is playing. NOTE ONLY when media is playing. If I'm on the menu choosing - and I hit volume it's call/ringer volume. That might be part of what you are seeing the media section volume is only active when some media coded stream is passed though.

It's another OS thing and not app dependent that I know of.

MacroDroid lists 7 volume controls.

I've got the app sounds configured to use the notification sounds.

MacroDroid can't "Lock" the volumes, but it can preset them for whatever conditions that you like.

Thanks, but I have an app that can preset them. My problem is that somehow I lower the volumes accidentally. Then I miss something important.
