Instagram duplicating photos in gallery

I've started using Instagram and I've noticed that when I share a photo from my gallery to the app, it creates a duplicate of the photo into a dedicated folder in the gallery. This bugs me more than I think it should. It is essentially duplicating photos on my device. I've hidden the folder for now, but is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Galaxy S10+
Android 9.0

Thank you in advance!

I know the feeling, simply go to the folder where they are saved and delete them.

In a word, no.

When you import an image into Insta you are editing the image even if you don't actually make any changes to the image; Insta will save a copy of your image so that you don't ruin the original file.

You have already found a solution to your issue by hiding the folder.
